Haven’t cut my lawn yet as it’s been so wet! How dry does it need to be before the first cut please?

As long as the grass is dry, & put blades on high, & off you go.

I’m a gardener and have been cutting grass for over a month now. Sharp blade helps.

I've got a petrol lawnmower, so I don't even need to wait for it to dry.

Too early! Let the grass recover winter and enjoy spring and growth before cutting

I've seen people cut their grass and it looks a right mess

I think it depends. I have a heavy petrol mower and the grounds too soft at the mo.

I cut grass in the pouring rain all the time all year round. Sharp blades. Don’t let the mower wheels sink into mud.

Definitely going to try and do mine on Saturday - ground is boggy and uneven - but the highest setting and emptying the collection box frequently should allow me to get away with it.

I would leave it if you are in England, as it will just clog your mower up, ours needs cutting but just too wet at the moment

Having a petrol mower , I'm waiting till at least 2 days of dry weather with no frost overnight, will raise the height to max , then reduce height over the next two cuts. Weather is forecast with frost and light showers for a few more days yet, ( north west / stockport ) . Up side its saving me fuel already .

If it's soggy underfoot I wouldn't do it. If it's just damp, I'd do it but use a higher setting and make sure your blades are sharp. I'm a gardener and I'm still 50/50 here in the North about which of my clients gardens I will cut. After the past few dry days though I'm expecting to be busy

@leclair I'm the same got customers asking for me to cut as it's grown so much but ground so water logged will make a mess and ruin my mower so iv told them have to wait  praying for a dry spell

@esophagus yeah. A few people have said "oh just do it, I'll take the risk" but I've said no because they may feel very different when they see a churned up lawn and blame me. Hopefully they see that I'm thinking of them and losing money by not doing so. The joys of self employment .

@leclair couldn't agree more nothing I'd like more than to get stuck in

Go out in just socks. If they get soggy it's too wet

We had a lovely day today in N Ireland and grass was dry so I did our first cut today and it was fine. Just didn’t go too short. It was on highest setting

If you have a hover mower, no real problem other than the actual cut itself, possible mutilated rather than cut. But this is not a problem for long only until the next cut. A high cut will at least let more sun in to dry out grass. Mower with wheels, can ruin soil surface when turning especially, so some care is needed.
