I spray for a living please don't recommend those hill billy homemade ones. You may find some gardeners can spray an area with commercial herbicide legally for less than a large bottle of weed killer.

@porphyrin so what do you use ?
by (2.2k points)
I use stuff that not available to public and specific to the weed I'm treating. Different weeds need different herbicides. Then you have selective herbicides if the weed are within a lawn , some that need aquatic approval if its within the restrictions from a water course, dry ditch or the top of a bank.

The you have some that only have approval for hard surfaces, agricultural land and more.

All depends on what's being sprayed and where, plus if the end user is qualified.

Iv non at the min as the mono block all jet washed wanted to put the weed killer in before I add the new sand. X

Then there is none available as weed killer is only absorbed through the leaf, its systemic and translocated. Only residual available for hard surfaces id sprayed through a specialist nomix sprayer and premixed.

Please do not put acid or diesel on the soil, not just kill plants but kill soil and creatures living in it. absolute madness to do this and call yourself a gardener.

A hoe, and your hands, many weed killer will also kill bees and pollinators.
by (2.2k points)
@halmahera64 Not exactly true, the one's which killed bees had neonicotinoid as an active ingredient. Other ingredients such as triclopyr, 24D and glyphosate can also cause damage but remember the plant would also have to be in flower. The best time to spray under the code of practice is dusk and dawn when bee activity is low.

@porphyrin still kills

I treat invasive weeds mainly, nothing else to combat them. The timing is also key and spraying weeds should always be a last resort.

I put diesel under my patio, directly below the slabs. Absolutely nothing grows between the gaps.
