I normally just stick them in a pot still attached to the plant until the roots form then cut it off from the plant ☺️

Don't cut the babies off, just peg them down into another pot of compost next to the parent plant they will soon root and you can then cut them off x

Cut the shoot from the mother plant and set in a small cup or glass of water until there are 2/3 inches of roots growing then transfer to soil, sometimes I’ve forgotten about babies and they have sat happily in a glass off water for a few months before being planted

@scintillant5 really I’ve literally only ever done it this way and it’s actually how I got my mother plant, it came from my grans spider plant, are they not growing roots or wilting or what? X
by (990 points)
@coloration0 just nothing lol no growing didn’t wilt or anything though lol I’ve tried again with the same sort of idea but without cutting from the mother plant until roots appear x
by (470 points)
@scintillant5 how long are you leaving them? Roots can take a while maybe just slow growing or needing a change of temperature or light? I’ve always had mine in the kitchen or bathroom window so quite moist/warm rooms if that helps? X
by (990 points)
@coloration0 literally like 2 months lol x

@scintillant5 I’m afraid I’m out lol I’ve never had this problem I wonder if it’s a different variety of spider plant or just a bit stubborn  x

I took the plunge with mine. Cut them off and planted into small pots with compost. Watered in. Within a week huge roots poking out the bottom of the pots. Absolutely no fancy way other than stuffing it in the pot and hoping for the best. Mine are kept in a warm sunny conservatory. X

I used to pot it and keep it attached to the mother plant until it established itself. Never failed to work.

Do not cut off either out the babies in water till they riot then cut them off and plant up, or plant up next to mother until they are established then cut them from mum

My creative 11 year old asd daughter picked a spider plant at wales zoo when she was 5 roots still attached and now we have lots of babies plants. Plant them in a small pot still attached to the mummy plant until they get big another we gave a lot to the teachers/ support teacher before the children break up for the summer hoildays. Best time to transfer them is spring/ summer

by (990 points)
@bohun4886 move it  spiders are very hardy, the much prefer filtered sunlight. Try moving it to another window sill or even the other end it makes a difference  x
by (1.3k points)
@bohun4886 I never feed mine. Perhaps it needs repotting ?

If you don't cut them off they will still survive. If you want to root it you can put the baby in a plant pot of soil so the base of the baby is covered in soil, with it still attached to the mother. Cut when it feels rooted. Or you can cut it off mid long hanging stem, and plant in soil that way. I've grown loads of baby spiders that way, and only one hasn't taken.
