I have a whole lot of brambles to clear  i have chopped some off at the ground to make baskets with. But obviously those will grow back. Thecrest i just need to clear. Its going to be a veg plot so I don’t really want to use weed killer. How can i get rid?

@randirandie4 my dads mate had a huge pub beer garden to clear. Borrowed 2 goats to clear it and discovered a bowling green under it all. Once all weeds and brambles had gone they started eating the fence and trees. Did a reet good job

This was my bramble jungle. I found once I cut back to the ground I didn’t have that many plants. I cut down and burnt and dug up the roots.

@lani255 just dig and get the main root out that’s the only real way, I had one I my garden when I moved in, the main root was only 2ftish down but huge! Mum had one down the side of her house (she’s semi detached) used to be full of blackberries every summer but then the council cut it down, used to house a feral cat and her babies every year too  x

I have a similar bramble issue. So far I've been cutting them down and planning to pull and dig up the roots then make sure I keep onto if anything starts to come through again

@abbotson0 you strip the thorns off. Very strong and long stems perfect for basket weaving

They’re really bendy and strong. You damp them to make them pliable x

Cut them down and then dig up all the roots the only surefire way without weed killer

@grouchy4 I know a bit extreme, I had problems with getting rid of the roots from brambles, I used a blow torch, they’ve not come back

Cut them back by all means, but then you have to dig out the roots. All of them. Bramble roots are hard

If it helps, the bottom half of our garden looked like this when we moved in, after years and years of neglect. We now have a trampoline there, the kids play there and the chickens will be moving there soon too.

Rake, then hedge cutters then rake then hedge cutters repeat and a descent set of gloves

We’re in the same position at the bottom of our garden, and no choice to dig them up as they’re coming over from the railway line  If you work out the magic cure, please let me know

Get a brush cutter on it. It will keep trying to grow back but jut keep cutting it and mark out a small area to dig at a time.

Dig roots out, cover with black plastic for a year, or borrow a pig.
