I dug up an acer when doing our extension foundations, it's around 5ft tall and was out of the ground 2 weeks before it was replanted (I chose piped roots for a good hour each day), I had a hose pipe constantly on it for 2 full days when it went back in ground, didnt do much that year and thought I'd killed it but this year it's back in full force though 1 of the large trunks died off.
