Question

Hello everyone, I use google tag manager to setup my conversion tracking inside of Google ads. If you do as well, I was wondering what are some common problems you face? (and hopefully some solutions) Issues tracking things like button clicks, form completions, and page-views. Specifically using google tag manager and Google Ad conversion tags.

It can be tricky to find the right triggers at times. Other than that just check your work with GTM preview mode.

@constringe linking more than 1 button on the same page. identify the right click Element

@obligato ah yeah, I have some pages where multiple buttons go to the same place, so I try to use the click text or click URL as the trigger

@obligato well I figure that if they click on any of the buttons with the same product text “pre-order the -product name-“ It should count any of those button clicks as a conversion

Tracking forms submitted on some sites is challenging for me. There's so many type of forms. I wish I knew how to code

@mitman17714 exactly, I’m thinking I might just have to take he plunge and learn some coding soon. Luckily for now I work with an amazing webmaster, but for some of the tracking projects I think it might just be worth it to learn some html or something

I'd love to learn more about that too, along with setting up more complex and cool things in GTM, and understanding how to work with the Google and FB API would be cool too. Someone already do it in my team, but just for personal growth. On the web side, I'd like to be better at adding customizations to websites I build in Wordpress

Biggest issue? The people who design forms plugins usually have the necessary analytics events included in the paid package.
