Ok.  here is one for you.Ok. here is one for you. My brother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday. Not sure of how "far its gone" as he is waiting a biopsy next week. He has been in hospital since New Years Eve, getting out today and wants everyone to get together for '"Turkey (Christmas) Dinner" on Sunday. I just started IPA on Monday. how am I going to do this?

What sides are you having with the turkey? You can have rutabaga, brussels sprouts, and cabbage for sure. (As a fellow NLer, I'll also say to make sure you don't cook the veggies with the salt meat! )

Unfortunately, if you are from NL, you know what "Sunday Dinner" is. My mom will be cooking it and it will definately be cooked with salt meat. :(

Thanks everyone for the support. I don't know why I am second guessing this as Monday will be a Brand. New. Day and family is definitely more important!

You can totally have turkey breast, offer to bring veggies for sides (measure them out while you’re eating), and have a salad. Or eat ahead of time before going over it will fill ya up and eat what’s on the sheet that’s provided at dinner. I’ve had family gatherings where I have brought my own food so I could stay on track, and nobody took it as me being rude. They all thought I was pretty dedicated and were very supportive. Definitely go spend time with your brother though. I would do anything to get my brother, that I lost, back. You got this! Prayers for your brother.

I brought my own meal to my family's Thanksgiving dinner so that I knew exactly what I would be eating: roasted turkey, roasted rutabaga, roasted brussel sprouts, green beans, WF cranberry sauce, and Janeva's caramel jicama stix for dessert. It was delicious and I didn't feel left out of the meal or the general meal experience. Many healing thoughts and positive vibes to your brother!

I am so sorry to hear this. My advice is to take an IP side. Then you'll know you can eat turkey and the side you bring and not worry about food and just enjoy your family. You can do this.

I want to give you some hope. One of our best friends was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 6 years ago, at age 44. They(surgeons) did a Whipple procedure on him at that time and he's been on oral chemo since. The oral chemo has stopped being as effective but that 6 years has bought him time for new treatment opportunities. I pray that the same will happen for your brother. As for the supper, I'd eat the turkey, bring a side that is protocol and use your snack for dessert.

Honestly Family first You do what you feels right for you If you wanted you could still be careful. But enjoy Drink lots of water And get back on track when the time is right for you (Don’t over do it thou). you might want to phase off before. I didn’t for a trip back home after a 50 pound loss. I indulged at a family gathering(reason for my weight loss goal) I was soooooooooo Sick. like the worst stomach/intestinal flu I’ve Ever had Took me 2 days to recover. just an FYI

If you have not cheated this week then I would not cheat for this meal. You will have many events both good and bad during your time on IPA. yes it will be hard but take one meal at a time. Eat the turnip and cabbage even if it is cooked in the salt meat just drink a lot more water before and after. It’s better to have a slower loss then come out of ketosis. Bring an IPA dessert and take a salad or some extra veggies to eat when everyone else is eating their other goodies. Don’t let the emotional eating get you. You have gotten through the hardest week with all the withdrawals. it will be harder to get back into it and start again. Focus on your family and not the food. And hoping the best for your brother. Good luck.

@extravasate thank you. I know, one. how hard it is to get back on track. and 2, to stay true to it. I will find my way. I’m sure. I also know how important it is to now spend time with my brother.

Yes your brother is most important. Good luck with it all.

Take everything protocol you need to eat and extra to share with everyone. This isn’t hard to do at all. I took turkey and broccoli to Thanksgiving AND Christmas dinners to share with everyone. Guess what I ate? I’ll give you a hint. I’ve lost 22# since Nov 14th. You can do this!
