Design flooring question: Should your mudroom floors be different than your kitchen? Our mudroom is attached to our kitchen with a doorway entry. debating if we keep the flooring the same or change it up.

I think this is one of those things HEAVILY dependent on home price point. After certain price, any future buyer wants either: flooring consistent throughout the home or something that looks very custom. Ceramic tile is very durable but if you have hardwoods, there are water absorbing mats that don’t look horrendous and are extremely functional (and if you ever sell, you just take them up).

We put tile to make it easier to clean esp with chicago winters. The kids bringing in all the snow and such. It works better for us. We used the tile that looks like wood.

You can definitely change it up! Make it it’s own space. Pick something visually pleasing and functional!

We have tile in the back hall where we enter from the garage and then the kitchen has different flooring.

Ours is different as we have hardwood in our kitchen and tile is much easier to clean from outside stuff.

Tile is easier for cleaning and tolerance for water (i. e. rain/snow boots). There are now great options to try finding tile that looks like your wood floor to match.

We have tile in our mud room - easier for cleaning. It’s especially safer than wood floors with wet boots.

My husband is an installer and raves about this luxury vinyl for pets/kids/needed durability. It looks so nice in this recent job he showed me.
