I’m new, been reading a lot of Negative and positive about Ring products. I’m interested on getting the Ring floodlight cam/ siren. I currently have all Nest, outdoor cam, Thermostat and doorbell. My big reason was 24/7 recording. For those that own the Ring floodlight, how are y’all liking it? The reason I want it is the Siren! Also checked out Eufy floodlight wich also has the Siren but that’s also event motion recording only. None of them are 24/7. I recalled Ring was going to start 24/7 in spring of 2019 and now it’s 2020. Would love some advice and recommendation thanks!

I have 3 floodlight cans, also 4 spotlight cams. Floodlight are great. Very good quality video. Triggered by motion is really good. Of all the Ring stuff I have, floodlight is the best.

@medamedal7310 I have not tried the siren, but I know when you go to the dashboard for the device there is a siren button, so I think it would be easy to test. My advice is buy one, take it home test it and if it's not what you want take it back. I think they have a deal at Costco.

I have 3. We have had an issue which Ring backed. No complaints Have alerted to 4 thief’s in the driveway.
by (740 points)
@medamedal7310 it must be manual triggered. I certainly would not want a siren every time it alerted!
by (130 points)
@wilda83 it does not sound siren unless you push the button for it.
by (740 points)
@buitenzorg agree. You manually activate it.

@medamedal7310 no idea. I don’t have echo

I’ve talk to Jamie, the CEO of Ring several times over email and he says “24/7 recording is coming soon” and that’s been over a year ago. They where planning on releasing both 24/7 recording and audible alerts in 2019 ‍♂️
by (2k points)
@medamedal7310 A whole new security camera company will come along with 360° view, 24/7 recording with 4K videos before Rings learns about 24/7 recording‍♂️
by (770 points)
@heyde remember that 24/7 is simple and has been around a very long time. I use the ring systems to capture on demand occurrences and than use the other cameras at a lower height from the 24/7 action which of corse is on a hard drive

I have one and love it, the only thing I hate is the color of the actual LEDs are yellow-ish compare to the rest of their cameras which are white.

@medamedal7310 cover my driveway, public driveway. Plus front neighbor wall
by (4.9k points)
Did you have to get that approved by the FAA?
by (200 points)
@medamedal7310 page 42 You just need to buy any floodlight (the brightness that you like) remove the motion sensor and follow the manual page 42. Make sure when you install Or add Ring spotlight cam, choose MOUNT version otherwise the AUX light option not showing
by (200 points)
@medamedal7310 make sure get Spotlight “MOUNT” version. Because that light come with auxiliary pig tail cable to control external light up to 120 watts
by (200 points)
@medamedal7310 mount comes with 3 plates to install into junction box plus the pig tail cable (the only important cable that you need) that ring did not sell it online or you can buy in hardware store because the “special” twist connect. Orherwise wired and mount spotlight are the same camera

Hey @medamedal7310. I have experience with both Nest and Ring products. In my opinion, all of Nest cameras are far superior to anything that Ring currently has in their lineup. The Ring alarm is a very solid performer. The cameras and doorbells need some work. This is a page dedicated to Ring, so you’ll very likely see many more favorable reviews on Ring products. Feel free to check out The Home Security Users Group for more objective feedback on every brand. including Ring and Nest.

They have been having issues with the IR shutter not working. If you read the ring blog there are many post from customers complaining about it. I’m one of persons comply about how ring didn’t take care of me. You have to buy the warranty

When taken in totality with the alarm system and $100 professional monitoring, it’s a good product with adequate quality and value. The cameras are nothing special but overall very reliable. These are not $800 Axis cameras! I would like to see a premium line of cameras from Ring with local storage option.

The yellow color on the Ring FLC is a real downer. Would have thought in security uses, whiter more daylight type color (5k+) - would provide clearer videos captures esp. @ night. If the Eufy had a better ecosystem, I would switch right away. Have never been happy with my RFLC's audio performance nor yellow light colors.
by (190 points)
@look there’s actually a way to retro fit the camera to an LED floodlight of your choice. There’s a video on YouTube on how to do this. I thought the exact same thing until I saw the video.
by (840 points)
@invoice Thanks! I will search it out. I know humans would solve the problem LOL!
by (740 points)
@look if you are in a residential neighbourhood the bright white is very intrusive to your neighbours. I think that is why it is tamed down with the yellow.
by (840 points)
@wilda83 I thought about that too but with so many people using LED bulbs for their outdoor fixtures - in my neighborhood - it's becoming derigeur.
by (190 points)
@wilda83, if someone is in my yard who shouldn’t be, I want not only myself, but my neighbors to know as well because they could be at risk.

I have really been pleased with both of mine. One replace the back door porch light, the other replaced a corner flood light. I did have to reset the porch light once after an update, but other than that no problems. I have linked them together and with a doorbell so when one senses motion, they all record. I can't wait for the update that will allow longer recording times. It is out for a few but not everyone yet. Oh, and I have the lights to come on at 5pm and stay until 9pm, so everything is well lit when we get home.

I have 2 ring floodlights. One in my backyard. The other in my front yard. I’ve had a good experience. They aren’t perfect, meaning every so often they will alert me to a spider in front of sensor etc. they are reliable but I have sensitivity as high as it will go. I get lots of cat roaming through yard motion alerts. In addition screenshot capture allows still photos outside sensor area. So I can review the night before in a very few minutes. As far as I know I have to be in live view to manually launch siren. Meaning I had to get alert, launch app and be viewing event live to activate siren.

@reflux u can set sensors just to detect humans. Go to settings

Have spotlight cam for several years. Very happy with it. No problems even through Wisconsin winters!

Wouldn’t your neighbors get aggravated if your siren went off in the middle of the night, especially without you verifying that there was an actual threat? Currently, you can have it alert you, wake up, take a look and manually set off the siren. I also don’t understand the desire for 24/7 recording. How is anyone browsing that footage? Serious question here - would appreciate insight that I’m missing.
by (110 points)
24/7 recording is absolutely necessary. There's going to be times where things happen that your motion-activated cameras don't pick up unless the motion is right on top of the camera. I love my Ring cameras but I can tell you out of the multiple times that I've had neighbors ask "Hey can you check your cameras for footage during this time? " I have zero motion alerts on my Ring devices and my 24/7 IP cameras caught the activity the neighbors were asking for. As much as I love my Ring devices, they cannot truly be considered security cameras when they're motion-activated only.

@medamedal7310 I’ve seen people post about noise ordinances on this group, particularly around being able to sound outdoor sirens in conjunction with the alarm system. I’m not supportive of my neighbor having an alarm sound without manual verification. Regarding 24/7 and other Ring features that we can argue up and down all day - Ring is not a professional grade system (I’m not sure this is possible via WiFi). It’s a consumer focused system that integrates ease of install/use with a fantastic price on monitoring. I share this so that you can take feedback from users on this group with a grain of salt, similar to what @georgiannegeorgic said above. Best of luck with your decision. I’m sorry to hear about your neighbors needing footage. I’m not opposed to 24/7 footage, but I hope that feature doesn’t increase my price because I didn’t buy into this system for my neighbors. But I agree, the cool down period could certainly be shortened. That’s a feature I can get behind.

Forget the negative. If ring was all bad then they would close down. In today's crazy world folks only whinge when things go wrong. Go shopping the store does not have what you want. So you take to Facebook and twitter to vent anger. Your taxi or uber is delayed in traffic by 5 minutes. What do you do. ((By you, not you you, )) you take to Facebook and Twitter and moan and whinge. Something good happens. You get great customer service in a shop. Or from another company, blah blah blah. What do you do. Absolutely NOTHING , You don't take to social media and praise up a company. Sad innit Basically things occasionally go wrong. There are hundreds of thousand of ring users. The percentage of folks complaining is tiny. So tiny it's not worth thinking about. Ring customer service are fantastic. One of the best I've ever come across for customer care. Be it 5 minutes on the phone or a hour or more to them. They stay patient and polite and do everything they can to help. I would say the biggest amount of complaints on ring devices having issues are caused by user error.

I have the floodlight cam and did a lot of research and comparisons. I also have a nest thermostat and a nest indoor cam. I like nest a lot but ring works better for me when it comes to connectivity, convenience and subscription simplicity/costs. Check you tube "Lifehackster" reviews on this cam. He has had this running for two + years without issue. Mine has been up and hassle free for 6 months. Fantastic image quality too.
