Can the Ring alarm be used as a self-monitored system that texts or otherwise alerts me without going through the hassle of a central monitoring call center? Looking to replace our current self-monitored alarm system which sends automated calls, texts, and emails upon alarm.

You can turn professional monitoring on or off in the app but it only cost a 100 a year which includes monitoring

@country will I still get called, a text, or email if the alarm goes off?

Pro monitoring is optional.

I already have the ring plan for multiple cameras.

Yes you can set it for a text and push notifications. I doubt you will get phone call with pro monitoring off

You do not get charged anything extra for the pro monitoring worth it in my opinion if you already have plan

@country I'd rather just get alerts, our cats and us set ours off too much.

I have 2 small dogs you have home and away modes and can customize the motion sensors for what you want to monitor I’ve never had a call for my dogs setting it off

@country we never had a false alarm from our cats with our current alarm until recently, when one of our cats found a new favorite spot. That's not why we're looking to switch, but it's a concern

I understand but you can switch monitoring on and off when you want. I like the pro monitoring myself for the same price. But it still will give all the same features if it is off minus a phone call.

You can self monitor but you lose cellular, and solely rely on internet for notifications

I self monitor and I have cellular backup. I have been self monitoring from day one.

@hellenhellene theres no cellular back up if you dont pay
by (380 points)
I do pay because I want the video backup on my doorbells, but you have a choice on weather you turn on the monitoring service. If you want the extened extended warranty on my devices also.

We have four indoor cats and after proper setup (with monitoring) have never had a false call.
