I posted earlier that I purchased 5 Wasserstein solar panels (for my Spotlight cams) that don’t seem to be working. Wasserstein sent out replacements. I can’t get those to work either. What could I be doing wrong?

What seems to be the problem?

@electrify Thanks for responding. I installed them as directed but they are not charging the cam. I charged both batteries fully on Monday and now one is down to 89%. This cam is on the front of the house and receives full sun all day.

@aurum69 which cameras do you have?
by (3.2k points)
@electrify Spotlight cams

I have the Same with the same solar panel

@electrify so I guess I’ll have to send them back. That sucks because I tossed the water proof plugs.

I looked at your profile, looks like your in Roosevelt New York. maybe give it until it is not cloudy outside? It is a good product and they are workhorses. Also you want them pointed at the sun at like 9am.

@desrosiers Thanks, it was nice &sunny here yesterday. This one is on the front of the house in the sunny side of the street. It gets full sun all day.

@aurum69 can you send a screen capture of the device health and one of the motion zones?

And this one

@aurum69 when it it sunny does it look like that?
by (3.2k points)
@desrosiers When it’s sunny. It gets full unblocked sun all day.

@aurum69 is that what it looks like outside your home right now? Are you sure they are connect correctly. With almost any amount of light it should at least know it is connected.

@aurum69 please send pic of the back of the cam and the solar panel connector. I wonder if the 2 different versions might have different barrel plugs
by (3.2k points)
@desrosiers Those pictures were just taken. They told me that it might not register that the cams are installed because they aren’t made by Ring.
by (5.5k points)
@aurum69 I call BS to the not register part. the pic of my health screen is a cam, that does not get sun the I spliced in a power adapter to a after market solar panel’s cable. Ring only looks for the right voltage and amps.

There are 2 different connecters. One with screws and one without screws. I trying to find out if they are compatible.
by (3.2k points)
@desrosiers I’m going to take the mounting hardware off the next nice day we have to see if that makes a difference. Personally I think the power prong isn’t long enough but others have gotten it to work.
by (3.2k points)
@desrosiers Yeah, mine has screws.

@aurum69 the time remove the mount off the back of the cam, and push that connector into really good and see if after a few minutes it thinks the panel is connected.
by (3.2k points)
@desrosiers thanks I’ll do this and see what happens.
by (3.2k points)
Still doesn’t see the connection
by (5.5k points)
@aurum69 all 5 of them do this?
by (3.2k points)
@desrosiers the first 5 did this. I only tried one from the new batch.

Are the cameras in a high usage area? Could be that the battery is charging with a few hours of sunlight but also discharging at a similar or faster rate as it is being used?
by (3.2k points)
@fuzzy I don’t think so but if that’s happening they’re still useless.

Even with the ring solar panels here I. Florida I find that on cloudy days it will not keep the battery fully charged. We installed a second battery to let them replenish on sunny days and drain down on cloudy days. No problems since we did this.

@discourteous Thanks, I have two batteries in place now. I’ve never seen them replenish with the panels I have. I’m going to order the Ring brand and see if they work any better
