Bad or no connection to wifi will prevent any alerts or recordings, but snapshot will still capture images.

what's weird is that I received the alert on my phone, it just wouldn't open. But it grabbed everything before and after via snapshot just not the event. Live view even worked right after

Snapshot will only take a pic once every 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 3 minutes depending on you settings. That could be why your snapshot didn't capture anything during the event. You might have it set at once every 3 minutes.

It's set for three minutes to save on battery, but if there was a connection issue you would think snapshot would not have captured anything and had a blackout

You would think so, but it does capture still. I'll shut off my wifi so my doorbell doesn't record if I go out front to do yard work. It still captures snapshot the whole time though.

Sounds to me like you do not have enough power going to the doorbell. Check out this article on Ring.

I'm a current Ring user (have a Ring Doorbell Pro and Floodlight Camera) and am thinking of replacing my current monitored home security system (its back end is powered by Alarm.com) as the monitoring service will be up for renewal in a month.
