Floodlights are much bigger, dual LED lights on the side where the SLC has two LED strips on it. FLC is hardwire only, SLC comes as mount (hardwired), plug in, or battery/solar option.

@pentosan53231 how much difference in lighting between the two?
by (22.1k points)
@altamirano way more light output with FLC. I have 3 FLC I use in different spots, I also added in two floodlight smart lights in my yard to pick up more light, then added a SLC mount to one of those smart lights.

FLC is two 1, 500 lumen lights compared to around 300-350 on SLC.

@pentosan53231 how many feet coverage of lighting can both do?
by (22.1k points)
@altamirano I’m not 100% sure of the SLC, I have a SLC solar out front and it only lights up maybe 10’ max. not super bright. My backyard is 35’ from house to wall and it covers most of it. Attached a screenshot to show how much it lights up in pitch black.

@altamirano Alot, floodlight version much brighter, and I believe the camera seems better as far as the night vision goes when the flood light is not on! I have both!

For me, the spotlight has a smaller range and less lighting. Floodlight is the best. Grest range, 180 degrees, 2 lights, and seems to record longer. I have both. I use the floodlight for garage and back of house. Spotlight for side of house. Spotlights that I have are solar powered. In combo, both work great.

Was it difficult to hardwire them?
by (5.3k points)
@altamirano nah piece of cake

Super easy, just like doing an interior light. Really no difference in the wiring.

@pentosan53231 just tap into any electrical box?
by (22.1k points)
@altamirano yeah, any open box that you have outside. I had my builder put in a floodlight when we built. I killed power to the breaker, pulled down that floodlight, and installed my new floodlight cam.

@pentosan53231 unfortunately I’d have to drill a hole in the front of the garage and run it to the nearest box
by (22.1k points)
@altamirano I added a FLC to the front of my garage. cost me $150 for an electrician to run the line, install the box and install the FLC too. I ran my own lines for my additional floodlight smart lights, but I only have to remove soffit to install those. I had zero desire to be in my attic in the middle of FL summer heat, it was well worth the $150 spent to have him do all the work.

@pentosan53231 can the floodlight cam be hooked up to the ring solar panel?
by (22.1k points)
@altamirano It cannot, it only runs off a hardwire connection.

@pentosan53231 That's cheap. in the summer in FL?! A true bargain!
by (190 points)
@altamirano No, it needs AC. The solar panel was designed to recharge the stick up cams which require DC.

Does it come with instructions on how to hard wire them?
by (22.1k points)
There are instructions included, if you've ever installed a bathroom vanity light, or fan, or any other light inside your home, it's pretty much the same thing.

@pentosan53231 does the wire come with it, if so how much?
by (22.1k points)
@altamirano you need to wire right into a junction box if you buy the FLC or the SLC mount. If you purchase the SLC wired then it comes with a plug that plugs into an outlet. I am not 100% sure on length, but I believe people have said 25'.

Floods light a bigger area.

Plus, the FLC, being wired, has much better control of Advanced Motion Zones, so you can exclude like bushes that blow in the wind, etc

I need one of these and i’m done. At $200 for the slc i’ll wait for it to go on sale. I’m really happy with the flood light version. the lights are good and camera is good, motion alerting is . well ok. sometimes it won’t alert on people but alerts all night on the cat. I can’t get a happy median. But i like it.

The spotlight cams get hazy after rain which this distorts colour and picture and the floodlight seems to do this less.
by (500 points)
@varese5 yea! I notice this with stickup cams

I’m thinking about ring replacing mine with a floodlight light and covering the electrician costs.

I’m happy where the spotlight is and I would have to hardwire a floodlight, but should I get a floodlight?
