You might not have a right transformer you need to have 16V 30VAC for ring

Sorry guys not that I am trying to show off but I am a home automation installer. Installed many ring products and sold many more including transformer as I spent hours with tech support ( different client issues) most biggest issue has been the transformer, so I ended up being reseller of transformers as I am not a licensed electrician, but I still support the client if they have any issues. Thank you @mock5172 and @congeneric14 .

@kraemer no worries you're not at all! Testing the voltage was the first thing I did on mine, kept getting different readings. Cleaned contacts and it worked, I just happened to have the right transformer but many don't!

I just replaced my ring doorbell . I read it on the instruction that even it’s hardwired, you are suppose to fully charge with usb connection before installation . I got the ring 3 model

Transformer is to small to charge it. Had same problem so bought extra batteries

Why not replace the transformer? The hard part is finding it

You either don't have the right transformer as @kraemer pointed out, or dirty contacts. When I added my doorbell it wouldn't charge, gently cleaning the wires and contacts with sand paper worked for me

@mock5172 this. When I first bought my ring it wouldn’t stay charged with correct transformer. Re stripped the wires for fresh contact and fixed it.

Brand new unit out of the box along with ring supplied transformer and it wouldn’t charge. Support’s only reply is to factory reset it and replace the unit. Tried the resister with no luck. This is not a difficult problem to solve with electronics so I don’t know why so many people have issues. All I can think is they don’t support wall charging.
