So I use an Asus router with their Smart Connect feature. It actually does a fantastic job of managing devices between 2. 4 and 5GHz networks, based on MCS. Smart connect uses one SSID with three radios, 2. 4 GHz, 5GHz 1, 5GHz 2. So I'm trying to connect my Honeywell thermostat with the app through my phone. The thermostat will ONLY connect to 2. 4GHz. If Smart Connect has my phone on a 5GHz channel, the thermostat will not see the network, obviously. Question though - How do I keep Smart Connect enabled, but forsce the thermostat on the 2. 4GHz band? Please no smart ass comments.

Is there a setting to bridge the two radios? I’m not familiar with that particular wifi AP, but that’s weird it’s isolating them.

@aguie6709 on the Asus router, I’m thinking there might be a setting that is preventing the 2. 4 and 5 GHz networks from speaking to each other

@terpsichore I connect my phone to 5GHz and communicate with devices on 2. 4.

Not sure why it won't connect since it's on same network but found this

Are you running any vlans? Not familiar with that router but if the ip scheme is the same then you should be able to see anything on the network weather it's on 2. 4ghz or 5ghz. Does your router not have a band steering option?

This sounds like Asus has made a feature out of some old tricks we've been using for a while now. On routers that have multi bands you name all the networks the same and then any device connecting to it will automatically go to it's appropriate or fastest radio.

With Smart Connect, you can either have 3 separate bands with their own SSID, or just one SSID with SC, and it loads and off loads based on either default triggers, or ones you set. I've been happy with the default for my home.
