Question about smart switches for my basement. My basement has 4 different switches to turn on lights throughout, only one being at the top of the stairs. My kids constantly leave lights on downstairs so I am going down and flipping switches to turn them all off. Now I know I can install smart switches and do an Alexa routine to shut them off, but with these newer programmable Inovelli or Zooz switches, is it possible to program them so that the switch at the top of the stairs could turn them all on or off?

You could do a “mirror behavior” in Smart Lighting if you have SmartThings.

@scrawl99595 I do. Just getting into SmartThings now. Would you recommend a particular switch?

@apprehensible I only use Inovelli. Their customer support has been the best. I had a couple of GE switches and replaced them with the Inovelli switches. The DH’s give a lot of flexibility and customization.

@scrawl99595 what did you mean DH’s?

@apprehensible device handlers.

@scrawl99595 is the device handler the Inovelli software or SmartThings or something else?

Inovelli 'red series ' can be set to up to 11 scenes, so you could have 1 tap down turn off local light. 2 taps down turns off any number ou f basement lights 3 turns off basement and closes garage door. and so on . anything you can tell your hub to do. Awesome company. they invite customer input for product development and are always there for support. You just missed their 'may the 4th sale Inovelli. com

What you are asking is easily done with a SmartThings hub and smart switches. You actually could have the lights turn off if there is nobody in the basement without you having to do anything. Alexa is very very limited in what can be done in comparison to SmartThings

@lixivium3 I have both Alexa and SmartThings. Just getting started with smart things and what it can do. How do I have them shut off, use motion sensors?

@apprehensible If you have SmartThings you have very little use for Alexa routines. Yes add a motion detector in the basement. Create automation that turns on the lights when motion is detected. Create automation that turns off the light when motion has been inactive for XX minutes. You can add conditions such between certain times, if (fill in the blank).

I would highly recommend the Inovelli Red Series for this application
