I’ve implemented a routine in Alexa that basically puts my home into shutdown mode by telling her goodnight. The wife snickered at me the first time I did it but it’s become a nightly ritual. The routine basically turns off extraneous lights and such and will verify doors windows locks etc as I add hardware to my home. Currently I do a nightly walk through before bed making sure doors are locked and lights are off but that sounds a lot like a problem for automation to me. Anyhow I had this brilliant idea to add the weather to the routine in hopes that she would give her standard random “goodnight” response as well as giving us the forecast for the following day. My thought was “if it’s going to be cold tomorrow how nice would it be to know ahead of time and plan accordingly”. Well it turns out she just gives the current weather data and there doesn’t seem to be any way to specify “tomorrow”. Does anyone know of a weather skill that I could add that might be able to do that?

I had the same issue so I added the weather to my morning alarm instead. Not really a solution but an alternative

@myrilla2 sometimes the simplest solution is the best one. I don’t currently use a comparable morning routine so that might just be easier. Had not considered that because the wife and I don’t always get up at the same time (well then the world isn’t currently falling apart that is). Another potential option that I only just thought of would be to have the Echo Dot in our bathroom report the weather in the morning when a person enters and closes the door. That would function in such a way as to accomplish the desired result without relying on an alarm in the bedroom and disturbing the other party because our closet is in the master bathroom so we get up and get ready for our day in there without needing to be in the actual bedroom and potentially disturbing a sleeping partner.

You could just ask the dot in the bathroom the weather.

Or ask it to start your day and add whatever you want. Mine tells me the date, weather, and calendar events.

@painting once again very true and a simple solution but I also like to brainstorm things through farther and farther than they even need to be. A buddy of mine recently accused me of trying to turn my house into a space ship. and he’s not wrong. Half the entertainment I get out of all this is the problem solving and puzzle aspects of finding complex and layered ways of making my home do what is expected of it without any intervention whatsoever. Very few of my automations have actually achieved that but it’s a fun goal to strive for.

Alexa, activate boyfriend protocol. Glaring spotlights, sprinklers, locks on daughter's windows and door.

My smart home pulls in weather feeds from various websites and does analysis on forecasts. This way they can be used for many different scenarios and applications and I get notifications if anything to be wary of is coming. It essentially scrapes web pages looking for the interesting bits.
