Is a traveler wire really necessary on a two wall light switch? I followed the Leviton instructions the lights once all connected turn on I have a meter to find the load connected correctly but it doesn’t work just says on.

Yes its neccessary. However, you can also use 2 smart switches and create a virtual 3-way

@interdisciplinary confused. So would have to buy remote switch or can use both same models to do the same thing.

Do you mean a 2 location light switch like 2-3 ways one at each end of a room.

The traveler is what allows the remote switch to talk to the master, so yes it would be necessary
