Is a traveler wire really necessary on a two wall light switch? I followed the Leviton instructions the lights once all connected turn on I have a meter to find the load connected correctly but it doesn’t work just says on.

Yes its neccessary. However, you can also use 2 smart switches and create a virtual 3-way

@ceyx8967 Russell basically if you had two wall switches to use wave you would need to hook both up the same way in order to control the lights you can not use just once z wave switch.

Or one Lutron caseta switch and a pico remote (which when using the wall plate mount, looks identical to a smart switch! )

I ditched all my travelers and use picos

So on my wiring I got red black white ground, I don’t see a traveler wire.

@interdisciplinary they work with SmartThings? I’m mean obviously they should, just dun wana have to use a homebridge. Though I am since mainly in windows and Apple echo systems.

@ceyx8967 I have 10 of them and counting. I do have the lutron hub but it's basically free with the kit. Only issue I have is every time I add a lite I have to delete them all and start over. All work with Alexa too

Red is a traveler

@interdisciplinary ok so if I were to hook up both dz-15s both the same and pair them they should both work?

When I hooked my meter it was solid red and sound on the red wire pulsing on black.

@interdisciplinary urg. I dun wana have to buy a freaking switch.

Unhook both three ways, find the always hot. Cap the traveler and tie the neutrals together and the hot (black together) at the other switch - that will be the pico. At the one with hot both blacks to the switch. Neutrals to each other, ground to green.

@interdisciplinary on dz-15s has bk wh rd yl/rd

It's not a three way switch, you have to use the pico but it works as a 3 way. Add another pico for 4. 5. etc

@ceyx8967 that's leviton not lutron. My bad. I'd assume same deal but it doesn't require another hub. I have those but not in a three way application (I prefer Lutron).

@ceyx8967 Russell I didn’t think so but dun wana have to buy a different remote switch if I can use them both since they do the same thing one would just override the other like a no. Z wave.

It says "Can be used in 3-way, multi-way circuit by using matching DD0SR-DL or coordinating DD0SR-1 remote switch. "

Same gig no hub

@interdisciplinary confused. So would have to buy remote switch or can use both same models to do the same thing.

@ceyx8967 I didn't look up those model numbers, I'd assume it's their brand remote.

Do you mean a 2 location light switch like 2-3 ways one at each end of a room.

The traveler is what allows the remote switch to talk to the master, so yes it would be necessary
