Ok so redoing my network at the moment, I've got a smartthings hub but also just bought a Samsung TV recently with smartthings installed, benefits of keeping the hub over using the TV hub?

I don't think the TV works as a hub, but allows you to control devices and watch video footage. I have one, but never use it for ST.

Thank you, not at the TV location at the moment so wasn't 100% sure if it acted as a hub or not

Tv doesn't act as a hub but it is nice to have it attached to the hub because you can use it to trigger automations and such. For example, when my TV turns on, the zigbee led light strips on the back of the TV are automatically triggered to turn on as well.

Back in the old days they tried it. I beta tested the SmartThings Connect, it was a USB dongle for certain Samsung TVs that made the TV the hub. It sucked. It never made it to production. I still probably have it sitting on a shelf in the closet.

@noisette nope. The shield stick is literally the TV dongle with a sticker on it.

I started with a smartthings link for my shield and found it to be perfectly functional.
