I microwave in a bowl of water for 15 mins and then cook. Never really liked it so now I shredd it and make hash browns. Goes great with eggs. game changer for me

@occupational, thanks I guess I didn't microwave it long enough.

How long did you microwave it? It usually microwave it for 5 minutes for 2 cups and 7 for 4 cups. It is then no longer crispy.

@navarre, 6 minutes with one cup of water.

@hyatt7852 don't put any water in with it. Just cut it up and microwave it. It has a lot of water in it and you will need to pat it dry before baking.

@navarre , ooooh, maybe that's why. Thank you.

I have NEVER had my jicama get completely soft

@mallette, right! It's frustrating.

@hyatt7852 I’ve boiled jicama for 15-20 min. before baking it, and it still never gets it entirely soft. ‍♀️

@cain3544, the struggle is real

@mallette thus the reason I shred it and make hashbrowns

@hyatt7852 I actually stopped cooking it and only eat it raw now in Janeva’s caramel jicama stix dessert recipe. I switched to rutabaga for fries because that is the closest thing to a potato IMO and actually gets soft when you bake it.

Yep, i only eat it raw now also!

Im obsessed with celery root fries! @cain3544

@cain3544 I'll try it raw. I do love rutabaga fries. Thanks.

@occupational have you tried kohlrabi hashbrowns? Sooooo yummy, and so much cheaper than jicama around here
by (210 points)
@mallette, not yet.
by (200 points)
@mallette never heard of that. will have to see if I can find it.
by (150 points)
@occupational they're in season right now, so they're easy to find here

by (110 points)
@occupational I’ve seen it at stop n shop, also in New England but when I went yesterday it was not there and hasn’t been. although I only looked in the precut section not in the whole veggie session
by (150 points)
