Do you find it helps having the 2 hubs.

@howie the ground floor of my house is very spread out and we have some extremely thick walls made of stone, I found I had to put one at each end of the house to get everything to work properly. I'm sure if I had more devices I'd be OK as I'd have more of a mesh, but still everything works fine now, I'm very impressed with the stability and the fact that I didnt have to do anything special to mesh up a v2 and v3 hub in the same account

I had to do the same with my mesh wifi

@synthetic5778 whos mesh you using?

Ubiqity, couldn't rate it high enough to be honest!

Would have got SmartThings mesh if it was available in the UK, american WiFi uses channels that are banned in the UK so didn't want to get them imported

You made the better choice, I am running the Amplifi HD right now, but thinking of moving to the Amplifi UDM as the HD don't use MU-MIMO and its causing me problems.

@howie yeah, heard mixed reviews tbh on those, they look the part! I used install and configure Cisco Meraki in corporate environments, nothing better, but their licensing model is scandelous at best!

SmartThings website says: Z-Wave: Up to 232 devices. The controller counts toward the total number of devices on the network; in other words, up to 231 devices could be connected with a single SmartThings Hub. ZigBee: ZigBee networks do not have a concrete limit on the number of devices. Some users may have hundreds of devices, or more, on a single network. However, larger networks will require wireless repeaters to ensure connectivity and optimal signal range and strength.

I’m up to 110 with no issues.

I think the v2 hub can have 32 zigbee devices connected directly to it, but you can expand that number with repeaters.

Not true. I have 40 Zigbee devices on my V2 hub. All working without a hitch.

@juxon Check your facts. At least 9 of your devices are connected to an AC Zigbee repeater and not directly to the hub. The limitations of Zigbee nodes are well documents.

@juxon He said with repeaters. Devices powered by mains will typically act as repeaters. Smart bulbs, smart plugs, etc. I can attest to the 32 device limit when I kept ramping up the amount of Sengled Zigbee bulbs in my house, not realizing that Sengled (for some unknown reason) intentionally stops their bulbs from acting as Zigbee repeaters. I was having devices drop off and not be able to reconnect them and was having a hell of a time figuring out what the issue was. Once I realized the issue, I replaced a few Sengled bulbs with SmartThings Zigbee bulbs (which are excellent repeaters), and have never had a problem since. I've got over 100 devices now (including a number of Xiaomi Aqara sensors which are very finicky about how they are connected) and I have no issues. If you go into the SmartThings IDE on your computer and click on the details of a Zigbee device, you'll see a "next hop" attribute, which tells you the device your thing is connected through. In your case most will say the Hub, but I guarantee that some will repeat through another device you may not even realize is acting as a repeater.

@parcenary894 That is an issue with most Zigbee bulbs, bulbs make terrible repeaters in the mesh. Even my Sylvania bulbs I had to make sure I had them at the end of the line or everything went haywire. Sengled was wise to just disable it by design.

@supine As I mentioned in my post the SmartThings brand bulbs are excellent repeaters.

I think I have about 150 physical devices and total of around 300 with smartthings. For the most part it runs well, but I think I have too many automations because some of my local automations sometimes take a couple of seconds to run. I'm thinking about getting a second hub or moving to a different system because its just too much for one ST hub to handle sometimes.

I'm in a similar boat. I have 310 devices according to ActionTiles at last check.

Max devices is not an “opinion” It’s a factual limit as @erotica said above.

My car has a seating capacity of 7 people, but it drives much better with just one.
