Hi  does Anyone work in insurance or can help me!? We were suppose to be going to Spain (Tenerife) and have had our flight out there cancelled due to B A no longer flying out of Gatwick I believe. (Although it was very unlikely we would of been able to go anyway with covid. ) we booked our hotel separately direct with hotel. And haven’t had our return flight cancelled as yet. Paid on debit card. We have annual travel insurance, does anyone know where i stand? I can’t get hold of insurance company at the moment ‍♀️. And advice would be very much appreciated as we have a lot of money outstanding. I am really mainly wondering I am best to claim for the hotel etc because the flight cancelled or because the covid guidelines etc ? Thank you for reading. X

If you booked your flight as a return then the whole thing is cancelled. Regarding the hotel check the small print when booked as they should have cancellation policy on there. Also if you haven’t paid it yet then some allow you to cancel 48 hrs before

Contact the hotel directly. Were both flights with b. a?

@chalybeate yes thank you. Unfortunately with hotel I booked the non refundable room. Rather then the dream rate room . I was hoping insurance might cover. But it’s not looking likely. Thank you Xx

@baikal0 check the small print for cancellation policy

@baikal0 likely hood is they arent going to be open, so your service cant be provided, worth contacting anyway or if you would go next year postpone, see if they can move dates

@baikal0 oh know  don’t give up contact hotel they may not even be open so Might not be able to take you. Or they might offer u a voucher for another date Then if not check with card company you paid with

@umiak3098 thank you. On my receipt for hotel it says non refundable though so unless insurance pays out or the hotel cancel I think I’m out of luck. Never mind. We are all well x

@baikal0 also remember we are in very different times now and they policy is for you not turning up. Now you are not turning up because technically the world is closed to all travel. I think you will get it sorted let me know the name of the hotel

@baikal0 contact them any way as this is an a situation where your not choosing to cancel, its the foreign office not letting u travel. So not out of choice.

@umiak3098 this is not true. Ryanair cancelled my outbound flight but not the inbound return. They are therefore only willing to refund the outbound portion at the moment. I’m sure the inbound portion will also end up being cancelled within the next week. And at that time I’ll be able to claim a refund for the inbound portion
by (770 points)
@vries37 they will have to cancel it and refund you. In normal Times I’m sure they wouldn’t but with covid they have to they may take there time but they will. I had a flight booked in March to Australia Etihad cancelled the out bound and I never received a cancellation of my in bound but they had to refund both.

Not 100% set in stone for BA not to fly out of Gatwick but definitely a possibility. I hope you can get something sorted for the hotel.
