Hi, guys. Thanks for all of the input. I was wondering specifically what the official WW plans are saying now. I'm lifetime, so it's been a while. Back in the day, they used to let us count a glass of milk as part of our required liquid for the day, as long as the rest was water. Same with coffee. I only have one diet Sprite a day and was just wondering if I could knock off a serving of my liquids per WW. personal views on sweeteners aside and your personal health aside. I appreciate all of your feedback!

@solfatara you should use the chat function in the app. Most people only retell myths they’ve heard about soda and artificial sweeteners, not evidence ‍♀️

@hollingshead no joke. Thanks.

@solfatara I try so hard to not even comment on these posts because it’s so frustrating but I obviously couldn’t help myself today

No. Only water counts as water intake. Especially on a hydration scale.

Diet soda is really bad for you

@bikol I often use web md and I do respect the FDA but they also approve fluoride, xanax and cocaine for depression and are motivated by billions of dollars, stroke risk is the main concern with me , my mom has dementia from all the pills and she has a diet soda habit, i could be wrong.

Web MD is a horrible place to get health information, artificial sweeteners are bad for you
by (500 points)
@omar do you have a peer reviewed source that confirms that?

Technically all liquid will hydrate you, & If youve ready drank a ton of water the pop wont hurt you if you keep it minimal. But it can stall weight loss & isnt great for you. Dont replace water with it.

All calorie free liquids including those with caffeine count towards water intake. I downloaded the drink water app and you put in exactly what you drink and how much.
by (2k points)
@impressible even ones with calories count.

There are no calories in diet soda. How would it stall weight loss?

@viceroy10 sodium causes fluid retention

@iaverne65211 hm. Ok. I’ve never had a problem with it. Maybe it’s all about moderation.
by (6.7k points)
@viceroy10 I hope carbonated water counts.
by (3k points)
@yahrzeit yes it would count, I can’t see why not

First you need to make sure you are getter enough to drink many people are dehydrated. But counting soda for water is not doing your health justice. You need to learn a new habit of drinking water. If I drink soda the sodium makes me retain water weight. So after I have had my 64oz of water maybe a soda for a treat. Not something I do more than twice a week.

Cardiologist told me add 64 oz to all the other stuff I drink. i spent a ton of time in bathroom and my RLS started getting worse. I think I was pp'ing out all my meds. No idea if you can do that but it sure seemed that way

Sort of. Are they sodium Free too? Do they have diet sweeteners? Technically you should limit them and be sure to get water in. You can also drink unsweetened decaf teas. Hot or cold.

Diet soda is AWFUL! I was on MULTIPLE medications for IBS -and GERD. I was miserable 80% of the time. I stopped drinking diet soda and eventually soda all together. I’m on 00 medication for those issues and my BP has improved.

Can’t drink diet soda. The artificial sweetener gives me terrible headaches. So I figured if it’s giving me bad headaches what else is it doing to my body.?!?!?

When did things that aren’t water start counting as water? You need actual water to flush all the chemicals in that soda out of your system.
by (500 points)
@moten water is a chemical  coffee and tea has ALWAYS counted toward fluid intake.
by (2.2k points)
@moten I've been lifetime for about 25 years. I'm sure the milk was before your time. Lol.
by (530 points)
@hollingshead well water has never been the cause of type 2 diabetes or heart disease. The “chemicals” in water are essential nutrients that your body needs. I can’t say the same about the “Caramel color” in diet soda.
by (500 points)
@moten diet soda has never caused diabetes either? You’re just repeating random things you’ve heard and it’s fearmongering, it’s not what the evidence shows.
by (530 points)
@hollingshead sure I’m just repeating random stuff I’ve heard. I never actually did any real research. I don’t know what evidence you have seen but all I’ve seen in several different studies show that their is a clear link between the two.
by (500 points)
@moten can you provide them?

Of course the American Beverage Association says that artificial sweeteners are okay. Duh. They are not. Stay away from diet soda. Very bad for you. Flavored sparkling water works for me.
by (2.2k points)
@diligent I am not asking about the American Beverage Association. I am asking about WW since this is the WW group.
