This is how mine look, and I make them with gluten free flour. One trick is to knead them, roll them in a bun-ball, and poke the centre out with a chopstick instead of doing the snake and join technique.

Your oven needs to be recalibrated. turn it up 25 more degrees than what it says.

I use regular flour, salt and baking soda instead of self rising.

Try cooking in the airfryer if you have one. 385 degrees for 8 minutes flip for 3 more minutes. The airfryer makes them rise more I swear. I will never bake them in the oven again.

Took me forever to get the hang of the bagels. After switching to the "self rising flour" it has made such a tremendous difference in the consistency of the dough. Mine looked like this in the beginning too. just gotta keep trying and find the perfect yogurt-flour ratio! i believe you can use a little baking powder too!

I just made them this morning, first time. I kneaded the dough, formed a ball, cut the ball ibto 4 even sections, rolled each section. Into a 7 inch rope, pinched the ends together. Egg washed the tops, sprinkled the topping, used parchment paper, preheated oven to 375 degrees, baked for 15 mins. Done! Delicious!
