I purchased a small bottle of organic stevia sweetener and just used it for the first time in my brunch of plain yogurt and blueberries. It was sweet, but tasted so bitter, I’m throwing the whole dish out. Back to honey, even if I have to use a point or two! Has anyone ever had this problem with stevia?

Honey is real and natural. Stay away from manufactured stuff as much as possible.

@weathered stevia is natural. I have grown stevia in my garden.

I also found when I tried stevia it has an aftertaste that remains in your mouth even after drinking water. No longer use it I am used of being without sweetener.

I agree that all non sugar sweeteners have a bitterness and aftertaste. I use only a tiny tiny amount. And almost never.

Stevia Blend that is a mix of cane sugar and stevia is better, in my opinion, not as bitter as plain Stevia.

I don’t like the taste of stevia. I prefer the natural sweeteners. And I know stevia is natural! I mean I like honey or pure maple syrup.

Ditch all sugar and sweeteners. Learn to enjoy natural flavours more. I like cinnamon on plain yogurt and berries.

Can’t stand most artificial sweeteners. They are nothing but chemicals. I have found Sweet N Low the best as far as aftertaste and I never use a whole pack. Way too sweet. Personally I’ll stick to my 1 tsp of sugar in my coffee.

You either had a brand with fillers or used to much. I've used stevia for at least 10 years or more and that he only happened to me with certain brands or using to much

Grow stevia in a tiny planter. take the leaves and boil them. That's your "honey" though, no matter what, honey tastes better. But we are all eating fat free cheese, so, do your best.

Stevia is a natural sweetener. You can get the plants at our local hardware and garden center.

As a beekeeper I can assure you honey is processed as sugar in stomach and does get processed as a carbohydrate so dont worry about having honey it's the smart choice

I thought Stevia had a better sweetener flavor but I was wrong, it tastes as bad as sorbitol, so I am not using any sugar substitutes or white sugar, I am using one tsp of raw honey when I need a sweetener, , ,

I can't use it. Kroger has a good one that is liquid. Also their brand.
by (3k points)
@boabdil why? This is not the 1st time I hear this.
by (710 points)
@reisman It doesn't leave a taste in my mouth. Only problem I've found is the cost. $2. 99 for a bottle. ( small ).

I use truvia cane sugar substitute in several of my re-engineered recipes as directed, 1/2 the amount of truvia per amount of sugar called for. I use the brown sugar substitute also. We, my wife and I think it looks and tastes like sugar, and “cooks” like sugar. 0 points in normal recipe quantities. $6 for a 24 oz bag at Wegmans

Some brands of stevia have a bad after taste. One good brand was called KAL and was sold at health food stores
by (470 points)
@jaques I used to use KAL stevia extract, and I love it until I found they add Maltodextrin as a medium! Bad ingredient. But the flavor is sooo good

Where do u buy monkfruit
by (150 points)
@jupon , Costco or online. I believe some stores carry in their natural/organic foods section too.
by (3.1k points)
@pith7113 Mitchell I saw some today at Wal-Mart but it was in powder form and had another ingredient listed first. I don't think it was the right one. Is their different kinds?
by (150 points)
@jupon, still new to using it, but mine is Lakanto brand & has Erythritol as first ingredient. Erythritol is a chemical compound, a sugar alcohol, used as a food additive & sugar substitute. (this is what I found when I Googled it)

Too much stevia can taste bitter. Honey isn't too bad, but try to train your tastebuds to enjoy less sweets, as it only makes you more hungry. If you cut it all together for a while you will realize everything has its own sweetness.

Monk fruit all the way! The Lakanto Baking Sweetener give baked goods same texture and taste as sugar. You can use granulated monk fruit too.
