Is anyone on Lexapro and not losing? I’m wondering if it’s the medication cause the scale isn’t budging. I’ve been tracking for a week and working out 40 min a day on the elliptical, drinking tons of water. the scale is staying the same or going up daily.

Perhaps ask your doctor about switching to Prozac. I found it worked better than lexapro.

Could possibly be hormone related as well. I find that when nothing seems to budge there often is an underlying reason that needs to be understood. For me it was first thyroid imbalance, then stress that led to cortisol levels being high and also now pre- menopause hormones changing. These things will not stop weight loss but understanding their influence may change some of the ways to lose weight. Just check in with your physician if the weight continues to stay the same or rise. For instance, increasing my B12 has reduced my stress and helped to budge my stubborn weight loss. Not having cauliflower, dairy related products 3 hours around when I take my thyroid meds. Adding hot lemon water as the first thing in the morning.

Not on lexapro but if you’re starting a work out program it could be that. I was up this week & the only thing I could think of was I biked 5 miles the day before weigh in & was sore.

I was once on Cipralex and I gained 25 pounds. When I stopped it I lost 15 pounds in a couple of weeks.

Every antidepressant I've ever been on has made either gain weight or plateau, Lexapro has actually made me lose 10 lbs and my appetite is so low I have to force myself to eat. I hope you can find one that helps, because some of the others made me eat all day and I never felt full

I was having a hard time losing weight as well, but not on lexapro. My coach suggested that I not use all of my points . Leave 5 each day and it worked.

A lot of this class of meds cause weight gain, and it's an individual thing. What causes gain in one person may not in another. But the most important issue is that if you are taking it for a reason, do not stop unless you speak with your provider. Better to be a little overweight than depressed or anxious. There is probably another med that will not have as much of a side effect.

I took Lexapro for about a year and then started gaining weight. Lost weight as soon as I stopped the medication, but please talk to your doctor first. It is a valid concern and possibility, but you don't want to just stop taking anything that is prescribed.

A common side effect for lexapro is weight gain because it is messing with your natural hormones and how you feel on a daily basis. i was on it for a few months and i studies it in nursing school as well

What is lexapro taken for?
by (140 points)
@martellato I would think if she wanted you to know she would of posted the reason. Why do you need to know anyways.

@fonda33218 There are generic medications that people take that end up being for the same condition. A different medication might not have this negative side effect. She obviously doesn’t mind people knowing she takes the medication, or she wouldn’t have mentioned it to a group with so many members. If I wanted to know that bad, guess I could’ve googled it. Funny I assumed “New York”. and I was correct. Figures.
