Help!  I’m having foot surgery this week and am so worried that my progress will be undone.Help! I’m having foot surgery this week and am so worried that my progress will be undone. I won’t be able to bear weight on the foot for 10 days and can’t do my regular exercise (walking & biking) for three months. What suggestions do you have for sticking with the program when I’ll be spending a lot of time on the couch?

Stick to program. Just because you can't exercise doesn't mean you'll gain weight. ‍♀️ I speak from experience. I had a total knee replacement and I stayed at goal.

@pervious and I had to stay off a broken knee for 10 weeks & stayed at goal. Follow the plan. You can do it.

Remember it’s really 80% what goes in your mouth. Only 20% is exercise. I’ve lost more on lockdown by watching what and how much I put in my mouth with no exercise. I use a food scale for the “how much”. I realized I was overeating even on WW.

You can totally do it. I’ve lost 23lbs in 2 months and I am the most sedentary person ever!

How? please share

@glen10 . I think mostly I track. Every single thing I put in my mouth I have tracked. Even when I had a 60pt meal!  I only keep low point foods in the house. I let my boys have a few treats here and there but it’s stuff I don’t like. I make a lot of different recipes so we never get bored, my family eats what I eat and we never have leftovers so far they’ve loved nearly everything, I’ve cut back slightly on sodium and I try really hard to get my water in.

I just had foot surgery end of January and was worried about same thing. Managed to take off holiday weight gain because it was just too much effort to go to the kitchen.

I’ve lost over 70 lbs with very little exercise. I’m just not a huge fan of it. Lol

Just broke my ankle and required surgery. Still not able to exercise like before and I’m 4 mos out. Lots of chicken and cauliflower rice. Drink a premier protein drink in the morning to keep you full. Fiber one oats and chocolate chewy bars have 12g fiber that you might need if you take pain medicine.  Drink lots of water and keep hand weights to exercise with on the couch. Using crutches is a workout too. Good luck and wishes for a speedy recovery!

Track, plan new menus, drink water first and snack on veggies most! Do upper body arms while sitting, do core on your back/ floor. Some legs stuff you can do sitting too! Watch you tube workout videos and get ideas!

Foot surgery is tough. Eat light, take your pain meds and elevate the foot as much as possible. Focus on healing. Good luck

Some things will not be in your control, accept that. I had ankle surgery and 6 weeks no weight baring and my husband was in control of all food. If you can manage to eat healthy and get support from your family you'll be fine. If your dropping pounds during isolation, this will be a difficult, but do-able. Good luck

I had ankle surgery and was non weight bearing for 4 weeks. Along with chair exercises and yoga, you can do leg exercises. My dr gave me a booklet that had exercises to help prevent blood clots. Lay on the bed or floor if you can and do leg lifts, knee bends, rotate each leg to the right and left while laying flat. Just remember you need good nutrition to heal. Do not skimp on protein

Watch what you eat. Losing weight is 80% what you put in your mouth, so watch the salt and sugar, carbs

Just do the best you can. I had ankle surgery in October and a knee replacement in February. Maybe try lifting some hand weights. Will your doctor let you do leg raises? Check out some chair exercises. Good luck with your surgery.

I had my knee replaced and that’s when I finally lost most of my weight! It goes to show you it’s all about what u put in your mouth. I think the biggest difference for me was absolutely no drinking I was on meds and of courses no drinking I never drank that much to begin with may a glass or 2 of wine twice per week and a cosmo here and there ! I wasn’t gaining but I wasn’t loosing and my trainer always told me it was the alcohol well I guess she was right because my food choices were the same and that was the only difference just be real strict with your food because u won’t be moving that’s why I started WW to begin with to get ready for when I was sedentary . Good luck

Pre-shop for lots of healthy choices. Can you make and freeze single servings of low point options? I love to do this with chili. Progresso low point soups are an easy option. Popcorn. Lots of fruits & veggies.

I had a knee injury in October, and started gaining because I wasnt moving and I used it as an excuse to eat, but then I leveled off and started losing again. I had knee surgery February 28th, and the lockdown shortly there after. Starting gaining again because I had an excuse. I had some trouble with my healing so I am still not back to work. BUT a few weeks ago I screwed my head back on right. I realized that less movement does not mean I had to gain. So I started really doing the program again. And started doing chair exercises and doing my PT exercises at home. You can lift light weights while sitting. There is a whole lot of sitting exercises you can do and as you heal there are a whole bunch of light standing and walking exercises. Just sticking to the plan you should not gain, even without the exercise. I didnt stick to the plan. I used the injury as an excuse. Stick to the plan and dont worry about the exercise. Clap your hands and flap your arms if you want to but don't use the injury as an excuse to eat poorly.

I had ankle/foot surgery 12 weeks ago. No weight bearing for 8 weeks. I think I did pretty good. gained 3 lbs 1 week but otherwise I lost a little or stayed the same. My advice, measure, weigh and track everything. It helped me to be able to look and see exactly what I ate. I also premade (and froze) individual servings of unstuffed cabbage roll soup and cooked ground turkey, ground beef and shredded chicken. Good luck. you can do this

Upper body exercises, and continue healthy eating and tracking. WW is 80% healthy eating and only 20% activity. You can do this!

Mostly watch what you are eating. That should help a lot. Diet is 80% nutrition, they say. I think you can get through this ok just don't go insane with food choices & portions. I made that mistake a few years ago after my surgery.

I am having neck and back surgery tomorrow morning. I know I can do it. For me it’s about discipline I know I can’t walk or exercise like normal but I can control what I eat. I know you can do it too.

Let your stomach be your guide. Because you are not moving as much you maybe able to eat less but don’t starve yourself.

Look for upper body chair exercise routines.

There are many chair exercises you can do free on YouTube. Hope that helps a bit. Choose your foods for nutrition, and keep in mind that if you're normally quite active, you won't be burning near the same when you aren't. Exercising with weights, even cans of veggies for hand weights will help with toning, and make you feel like you are doing something positive. You've got this. It'll be a big change in your routine, but nothing you can't navigate. ♥️

Focus on the nutrition. I had fractured my ankle and let it totally derail me. I was 5lbs from goal and now 20 from goal. Don’t let it get you down. You’ve got this!

I had bunion surgery the last week in January and was no weight bearing for 6 weeks. Before that I went to the gym 5 days a week so it was really hard. But I was just extremely careful about what I ate and I managed to keep my weight within 3 lbs. Just think positively and you’ll be fine. Good luck!

You can still get great exercise by doing an upper body workout with weights.

You might check out some chair exercising that are on line or on you tube. You may not feel up to it the first couple of days, but perhaps after that. If there are any that would require putting weight on your operative leg just skip that one. There are some really good chair aerobic videos.

I just had hip surgery and worried about the same thing, no weight bearing for 5 weeks, but my appetite was not the same and I think I must be using some calories trying to walk with a walker, so it may not be too bad! and you can't get to your favourite treats if you can't walk! Good luck and don't give up and try not to worry.
