If it is arthritis in the knees, work on strengthening your quadriceps (squat holding on to something to help pull yourself back up). I would say elliptical, cycling (but I have to cycle 5 times as far as I walk to get the same calorie burn since the bike is a machine and take some of the effort out), yoga or similar workout video, swimming.
