Has anyone noticed a decrease in weight loss due to diet soda? I’ve been drinking a diet soda every day recently and I’m starting to think it’s making me feel kinda fat and not helping the scale at all. I know diet sodas are zero points but what do y’all think?

I went off all artificial sweeteners. I tried for a week. It was a miserable, awful week. Then I went another week. It was really hard too. I added in plain carbonated water, the fizz helped. Then I set a goal to go for the rest of the month. By the end of the month I found that I had fewer headaches and I was sleeping better. I had a Diet Dr. Pepper and had an instant headache. So I quit. It's been 18 months with no artificial sweeteners at all. I feel so much better. I have had to be careful with counting points, though. My morning coffee is 4 points (milk and real sugar).
by (3k points)
@dismissive - the aspartame in the diet sodas gave me bad headaches so I stopped drinking them and headaches went away. The artificial sweeteners can affect people differently

No effect on me. I drink 1-3 daily and have lost 53 pounds since July ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

Go a week without, if you feel better during that week then stop drinking them. Or try for drinking them less often. I have 1 or more daily and they actually help my weight loss but everyone is different.

I went off of soda for 33 solid days—not a drop of it. I didn’t lose an ounce, and I had been drinking 3-4 a day, so I put no weight (pun intended) in that claim!
by (2k points)
@otto16206 very interesting! Thanks for sharing
by (12.7k points)
Similar. I gave it up for lent. lost not an oz. Lost 50lbs before drinking at least 20oz a day.
by (3.2k points)
@vitrine Since joining WW in Feb and drinking one soda every day, I have lost 20 pounds. Sometimes, having a soda keeps me from eating something I shouldn’t.

I am trying one week with none just to see the difference. I think it affects everyone differently. Some see no difference and for some it can keep them from loosing
by (2k points)
@hamil276 yea i think I’m gonna try to cut it out and see if I feel better and lose more!
by (1.4k points)
@wondrous10435 Hudspeth today was my first day and it was rough  by the end of the day I had a headache and was very irritable. Honestly if after I make it through this week I might not start again. Especially if thats what my body does without it. I drank 2 a day
by (2k points)
@hamil276 hmm that’s interesting! Is it because you rely on the caffeine? I actually just drink caffeine free diet Dr Pepper just because i love the taste!
by (1.4k points)
@wondrous10435 Hudspeth no I still drink my coffee. You can look up aspartame and the effects. It’s pretty bad. Definitely not good for us
by (2.1k points)
@hamil276 the first three days are very hard. I had terrible headaches. After the first three though the headaches left and now I crave water. hang in there, it is hard but will be worth it.

My issue is I have to have caffeine of some kind at least once a day or I risk getting a migraine. Don't have time to "detox" for a week so diet soda or coffee once a day it is. ‍♀️ Having it affect the speed of my weight loss is worth the reduction in attacks in my opinion. HOWEVER -- I don't notice any change. I drink plenty of water in addition to the normal caffeinated beverages.

As much as I love them, any carbonation is very bad for the enamel on your teeth. Regardless of what kind of carbonation you drink diet or regular: sparkling water, sodas etc. I was ready to buy a soda stream to make low cal carbonated drinks until I talked to my dentist. Still sad about it.

I cut out anything diet, reduced fat, or sugar free. It is full of chemical. I would rather the full sugar/fat and have less. All those chemical in "diet" food was not doing me well (acne, sluggish feeling, slow thinking, and i swear it made my hair growth slow). I use the Soda stream for carbonated water. Best investment ever.

I wondered the same thing but I also noticed when I drink my diet soda, how have I been doing in other areas, water, tracking, exercise. When I keep everything in check and make sure you drink plenty of water with it, it doesn't effect me. I know everyone is different. I have maybe 1 can of diet root beer every other day because it helps curve my sweet cravings.

It’s soda is poison. Aspartame is poison. I read an article ones that said a case of diet soda was put into a warm room in the warehouse and it exploded. Are you aware that aspartame was put on the market without being tested because the scientist discovered it by accident and they knew there was money to be made.

Aspartame is awful for your body and keeps you addicted to soda. It also creates kidney stones in people. Studies are sometimes questionable but these have been found truthful. My physician told me to get off soda which one can of regular soda has 41 grams of sugar. Aspartame is actually worse on your body than that! She encouraged me to get off of all sodas, lost 25 lbs getting off of them and my hair has started growing in thicker.

That’s what I was drinking in a day, 250 teaspoons of sugar, not tablespoons. More info: 12-ounce cup (child-size): 23 grams of sugar and 95 calories 16-ounce cup (small): 31 grams of sugar and 128 calories 21-ounce cup (medium): 44 grams of sugar and 180 calories 32-ounce cup (large): 65 grams of sugar and 267 calories
