Hello JoAnn, I can relate to that. I use to have a terrible time getting enough sleep at night & because I awoke frequently, I started to snack. At first, I ate healthy foods like fresh fruit and raw vegetables. I told myself I was eating healthy so don’t worry about it. That mindset led me down the path to consuming leftover cake and ice cream which are both high in sugar, carbs, & calories. I couldn’t stop eating. I went to a dietitian recommended by my doctor. I sought out a personal counselor. Nothing seemed to help. With my feelings of guilt and weight gain, I decided to stop all nighttime eating after 10pm. I went cold turkey and suffered sugar withdrawal. From one extreme to another, but I am reaping the benefits of my decisive decision to quit all nighttime eating. During the day, I do eat 3 meals a day high in protein with fruit and vegetables. And occasionally I eat Hershey kisses, ice cream, or cake. I have found that this approach has helped me gain control of my eating instead of my eating controlling me. I hope this is helpful.
