Hello everyone!  I have a question about the Target 5% when you use the Red Card.Hello everyone! I have a question about the Target 5% when you use the Red Card. it's attached to my bank so it's not a credit card. So, IF I do purchases on the cash envelop system and I shop at Target using the cash system I don't save the 5% - I don't like that so much! So, how do I do the "cash" system electronically? I mean, I do the bulk of my grocery, household, personal, even lunch while I'm at work!

That bothers me, too. Been using cash for now, just for the discipline, but I’ll likely go back to my red card soon.

You could always treat it like online shopping. Miko does the cash envelope she reimburses her self with.

Its 'cash' as long as it's not credit. I havent been successful with the envelope system, BUT, you could track your purchases on a envelope tracker but use ur debit card. Continue to have a budget and not overspend on it. Track it just like u do green cash, but use ur debit.

That’s stuff I use my account buffer for. I’ll buy with my card or buy online and use my account buffer and then take cash from the correct envelope and deposit it into my account. But things like gas, I have electronic envelopes for because we always use our cards for gas.

I still stuff the envelopes, take the cash with me to target so I stay in budget, pay with my card and then head right to the bank (it's just down the street from Target) to put the amount i spent in. Sure it takes a bit more time but it's really helped keep me in budget!

@dunbar I do this! More of a hassle for sure but need the discipline. I do this for gas too since Costco doesn’t take cash, and my bank is down the street from target & Costco

You can have a Target sinking fund with the average amount you spend. Then deposit the money into tour account so you can cover your purchases. A bit more work but you can enjoy your discount.

I use a Target red card. I just round up and pull the cash from the appropriate envelopes & redeposit into my bank.

I use my red card then take cash out of my envelopes to “deposit. ” I usually don’t deposit but I use that money for next cash envelopes.
