When reviewing the online statements of our credit cards, I asked my husband to send me a screen shot of one of his cards. It had an authorized user. I asked him about it. turns out it was his ex wife. I was sitting next to him 2 years ago when he called and requested she be removed as we were doing our budgets as a newly married couple and he didn’t realize she was still on there and had access and had charged up the card. It had been paid off and she had the address of the bill changed to her addres. We have dealt with a number of identity theft issues. Last weekend it was a hard credit report check for AT&T. I have been mysteriously removed from his medical insurance twice. Things like that. It was traumatic. He had called and requested she be removed then. Pretty shocked to see her back on. He tried to call today to do the same. he may end up just cancelling the account. It is his longest standing line of revolving credit though. He could not get through to anyone today. Question is. I believe authorized users receive credit scoring benefits by association of being an authorize user? Would his credit improve by removing her? She has two evictions and a judgement against her because her attorney sued her for nonpayment. We are working really hard to raise his score and finish paying off debt and saving for our down payment for a house. ✅Update: Thank you all for the advice! We filled a police report. The credit card is a “Military Star Card”. Since their divorce she doesn’t have a Military ID to use the NEX or NEX Gas Station. We purchased an identity theft policy. We locked/froze all credit bureaus. He is still trying to get ahold of the Military Star Card to remove her as the authorized user and report that he requested this change over two years ago. He wants to keep it open but put into place additional measures to deny access for her to use it. She doesn’t have the privilege in any capacity to do so. Thankfully she has not put any charges on it within the last two years, just prior to the first discovery.
