I'm so frustrated!  I've been dreading calling to lower my cable/internet/home phone bill for a while, but so many people have had success with it.I'm so frustrated! I've been dreading calling to lower my cable/internet/home phone bill for a while, but so many people have had success with it. so I figured why not. I pay $300 per month & there's nothing they can do to lower my bill! Really?

We have spectrum cable, phone, and internet. It’s the same deal for us. Won’t budge
by (590 points)
@boni1859 we called spectrum and threatened to cancel and we got a reduced rate.
by (1.6k points)
@croissant, normally I would but where we are they are the only internet game I’m a bit nervous to do it with out being able to follow through lol.
by (590 points)
@boni1859 they're also our only choice for internet :) but if you're not comfortable asking that's totally fine! Just wanted to let you know it works lol
by (1.6k points)
@croissant, I might call again and be more forceful with the confidence of knowing they worked with you  did you have to speak to a retention department or just a regular cs?
by (590 points)
@boni1859 we were transferred to the retention department after saying we wanted to cancel if our price couldn't be lowered :)

Look into Trim. They call providers and negotiate on your behalf. If they don’t get a better deal you pay nothing. If you do then you pay I think it’s 30% of what you save. So if they save you $150 a year then you pay them 30% of that.

Get YouTube tv for the fraction of the cost. we lowered our monthly bill by $111 and we upped our WiFi and we are still paying less than what we did with cable
by (1.1k points)
^^this! YoutubeTV has everything you need for channels for $50 a month. Just cancel everything else except your internet and bid those cable people adieu

@primal3009 I love YouTube TV!

You have to ask to speak with the retention department. They will give you a deal.

You have to ask to speak to their retention department. The first person you speak to typically can do nothing for you.

I cancelled it all but internet. I don’t miss it. But when sports come back I might need to add something.

Cancel! Open a new account in your spouse's name (if you have one) as a new customer!

Ask "What do I need to do to cancel my service? " They will transfer you to the retention department to try and work something out. If they don't transfer you , you can say that "you will talk it over with your roommate/spouse/etc" so you don't have to cancel right then and there.

Threaten to cancel! That does it every time. If they let you cancel, shop for a new deal!
by (1k points)
@alida they never would do anything with my bill. So I after months of suffering I went with a completely different provider for live tv and internet

They didn’t do anything for me but yet new customers get the better deals. I was basically told if you’re not happy change service. Then they threw in feee HBO for a year. I pay $200 a month.

Sometimes you have to tell them you are calling to cancel and then they put you through to another agent and they try to help you then.

I cancelled cable yrs ago and have just internet and we a streaming stick to watch tv. Also you can get straightalk prepaid phone service for like $15 if I’m correct but not sure what you need to buy upfront. But, of course can only be purchased at walmart or straighttalk website.

Get rid of it. You can stream Netflix Hulu and specific things through different apps for WAY cheaper than that.

Cancel. Anything you really love you can find on another provider, YouTube TV or Hulu, there are actually a lot of options! We also add things for the holidays (like hallmark channel) and cancel when the holidays are over.

We don't have cable, and we don't have a home phone. Our internet what my fiancee and I would do is once the promotional amount was over we cancel and set it up it the others name. So one year it in my name the next his then back to mine to get the new costumer discount. This year I just called nicely shared that I noticed the promotional discount was over and if there was any other discount or option they could do to lower the amount. And that worked.

Ya they won’t just lower it. People say it’s lower because they cut services

@rhaetian exactly

We ended up changing companies for this reason. However, streaming services will get you almost anything you want to watch and for cheaper.

Comcast called our bluff a couple of years ago. We’ve been without cable ever since. It hasn’t been a big deal at all. We use Amazon Prime and Sling.
