I’m going on cruise where I’ll need a couple envelopes with me at all times and a card. I need a light purse to carry those in. I currently can’t wear anything across my chest and I don’t prefer wristlets. What do you recommend?

Ooo, what cruise? I know Family Life’s Love Like You Mean It is coming up
by (1.5k points)
@remise270 Disney! I have lanyard for my card, but I don’t necessarily want that on in the pictures. With tips and going to different ports, I wanted some kind of a purse/bag.
by (1.5k points)
@remise270 I had to look that cruise up. Jordan Feliz?! How cool. Looked like a neat cruise for sure.

Oh I am soooo jealous! A Disney cruise is on my bucket list for sure  It is an amazing experience! The year my husband and I went, Jeremy Camp and Love + The Outcome were there!

It’s our first cruise ever  And Disney experience for the kids. We are taking our son to see Jeremy this summer. Thanks for introducing this to me.

They don’t allow Lanyards on this cruise? Wow, never heard of this before.
by (1.5k points)
@augur they do. My envelope won’t fit in a lanyard. Haha

@sacha9 oh

@sacha9 How about getting one of those plastic pouches that people use at sporting events that go on the lanyard that people keep their tickets visible? I have one from my favorite sports teams and they tend to be wide and vertical. I now use for concerts and other sporting events! I'm going on a cruise too and this seems like a good idea for that too! Thanks for the post

A fanny pack for sure!

You can get a small crossbody and make the strap shorter and just use like a normal purse. I have this one it’s super light. And fits a good amount of stuff. Cause you need your card, cash tips, phone, I’ve even put my cord and backup charger in it.

Sounds like your only option would be a fanny pack.

Oooh you know what I did in NYC? I have one of the runners belts that are elastic and have a small zipper pocket. In nyc I was terrified of getting mugged so I put it under my clothes on my waist. But that might be something to look into! They’re not very bulky and you can totally rock it if a fanny pack is too bulky for ya!
by (6.2k points)
@sacha9 currently on a cruise. Not sure what cruise line you are going but I’m on royal. When checking in we had to have a card on file, and any gratuities or room service go onto our “sea pass” (aka our room key) any shopping on the boat done at gift shops or extra things purchased on the boat are just charged to the room and will be charged to the card on file at the end. We can also choose to set up a cash account instead of them having a card on file but I believe the minimum to have a cash account is 500.
by (1.5k points)
@diapedesis6 thanks! Cash account is a little less but we can refill it. That’ll help for sure. When we leave the ship, it’ll be good to have some kind of bag then. Good I don’t have to worry about the ship then!
by (6.2k points)
@sacha9 what are you sailing on? I have this. It holds plenty of cards and cash in it but can still fit in my back pocket if I don’t feel like having it around my wrist. It’s been a life saver for not only this cruise, but also anytime I am out that I don’t/can’t bring a purse (professional sporting events, concerts, out on the motorcycle etc)

@sacha9 Disney cruises are the best! If you wear a lanyard with your card, you really shouldn’t need to ever carry anything else while you’re on the ship. A fanny pack would be good for ports if you can’t do a crossbody.

@kernel ok good to know. I like to have things just in case.

Am I the only one who just tucks things in my bra or bathing suit?
by (820 points)
@nam435 I do but we really shouldn’t! The amount of germs on that money against your flesh . We are asking for MRSA.
by (1.5k points)
@coveney I guess I never thought about that. Maybe I’ll tuck it in a little fabric pouch and then in the bra next time

There is a safe in your room. You won’t really need anything on the ship. Off the ship you’ll typically want a backpack or beach bag for towels and sunblock Take a little zipper wallet in that along with some cash and your boarding card. You can set up a cash account on cruise ships and charge everything to your room. You can pay it anytime or at the end. We used to pay each night in cash on the way to dinner but now we just keep it all in the safe and check balance on the tv to be sure we are on budget. We don’t spend all that much.
by (1.5k points)
@roundel23 very cool. Didn’t know I could do that in the tv. Thanks!

@sacha9 almost all cruises are cash free, but if we feel our cabin steward or other crew members deserve more than the daily gratuity, we put extra cash in to an envelope just for them. You can settle your balance (daily gratuities/room service/etc) before the end of the cruise by going to guest services.

How much you ladies put in for this envelope?
by (2.9k points)
@martyrize our tips and gratuities are included in our cruise price. The Carnival Dream is a no cash boat I believe
by (1.5k points)
@martyrize I went to a Disney blog that helped me calculate what to pay.

On cruises can’t pre-pay some tips and have it charged to your room?
by (1.5k points)

I didn’t spend $1 in cash on the cruise. Left my money in the safe except for when I took cash for shopping/gratuities in port. Just need the lanyard on the ship day to day.

I just used a book bag when I cruised to Bermuda in August. Stored my water, sunscreen, beach towel and wore my sea card around my neck. I took them off for photos and it was fine.

Not sure how much they are, but went to an outlet mall and Coach and Michael Kors have a wallet/wristlet that comes with a belt to wear around your waist. They were 70% off tho.

@peregrinate TJ Maxx has a lot of them too

Some cruises do not work w cash on the boat. It’s is on a card/room key and you square up at the end. May not need cash as you go. Off ship you will want something to carry things

I wear backpacks and wristlets.
