A lot of people in this group seem to be CBO fans. I’ve personally found more success with ABO, just depends if you want to increase/decrease budget on ad sets yourself. Also, Facebook was supposed to make CBO mandatory last year. Then they pushed the date off to be early this year, still isn’t mandatory. Now there are talks that it is never going to be mandatory. So kind of goes to show their confidence in it

Depends on what you want to do, both CBO and ABO's work. I prefer testing with ad set budgets personally.

It’s what Facebook recommends. However my personal experience testing CBO is that the ad delivery is biased to the broadest adset, even when it’s not the one the brought in the lower CPL. Spends really fast on one adset alone while others don’t get as much impressions or share of the Budget. So I do not recommend CBO when you’re in the early stages of testing. What worked well for me in the past is test out several ad sets without CBO first. Once I find an audience that performs consistently for 2weeks, I isolate these winning adsets into separate campaign with CBO and larger Budget. This restarts the learning phase for the ad sets but they do get out of learning phase faster within a week if they have enough conversion data. But. I haven’t tried CBO in the past 5 months so don’t count on it.
