Ok.  complete DIY novice and I am generally hopeless.Ok. complete DIY novice and I am generally hopeless. Moved into a new house and trying to resurrect the decking. It was mouldy and paint chipped and come away in many places. I've jet washed all the mould and debris off. now what? Can I paint it as it is? Even though paint is still cracked in the creases? I'm trying to sand down the rough areas with sandpaper and my neighbours must think I've lost the plot

We had old decking like this, took it all up, I sanded the reverse side and relaid it opposite way round so smooth side up. then just applied decking oil to it to give it new life

I've never had decking but I've seen others like this and they've had to sand blast it or sand by hand. When all thats done put staining of your choice into a roller tray, dip a soft sweeping brush in and brush it in the decking

A wire brush might help to get the bits out of the grooves? (Never tried it myself so don’t blame me if it doesn’t work )

A coat of grey decking paint then try stapling 13mm chicken wire over as it looks good and non slip. £14 from Screwfix.

Jet wash it if you can and then sand, cover with decking oil afterwards.

Jet wash it first which will clean everything off and then you can oil it and it will be as good as new

Just done mine, looked like that, after jet washing, I’ve had to repaint but last time I used decking stain, and ended up a mess, this time I’ve used barn paint. I’ll put pic in the comments. looks so much better just hoping it doesn’t flake and peel off. x

Get a more powerful power washer, around d 2000psi, you can rent one for about £30 for the weekend, itll remove all the debris in the groves. Then if, when painting with wood stain buy a soft floor brush, and paint from a large paint tray, makes it easier and looks great.

Firstly jet wash to clean it, then turn the boards. It should always be installed with grooves facing down

White brush it first then a nice fresh coat of paint will be fine!

Best with using a wire brush to lift up the stubborn dirt and then jet wash again. It will come up good eventually!
