by (680 points)
@birt good grief!
by (930 points)
The previous occupants had been here a long time and it wasn't their dog, so must have been a long long time ago. We reburied it, but it upset me so much.
by (2k points)
@birt flipping eck, we buried 2 dogs and 2 cats at my Mum and Dads house in the middle of their back lawn, someone else lives in the house now since 2005 hope they haven't been digging lol
by (930 points)
I have cats buried at two other properties, my ex wouldn't let me have them cremated. Breaks my heart. I have all my animals cremated when their time comes now. At least I can take them with me when I move.
by (2k points)
@birt I know me too but when ours died they didn't cremate pets then :( x

:( hopefully if anyone did go digging and found them, they would rebury them respectfully xx

In years to come someone will have fun digging up my garden I have buried 2 huge concrete line posts and a complete concrete fire surround and hearth , will put pic in the comments
by (4.9k points)
@thinner just why ?
by (1.5k points)
@trail70282 because it was easier to bury it that to break it up to take to the tip  it was in too poor condition to keep , when we moved into our house last year it was stuck in a 50s/60s time warp and had to be gutted
by (630 points)
@thinner yes because we all like digging up other people’s crap  we’ve had bags and bags of rubbish buried in huge holes, a huge roll of plastic sheeting and more! It’s an absolute joke, it’s taken so much work just to make it safe for my kids to go in!
by (1.5k points)
@yate9837 its my garden and at my age last place i will be living my kids will inherit my house they know it's there so no problem. Anyway it creates great drainage
by (630 points)
@thinner fair enough if it’s your house. Mines a typical council nightmare
by (1.5k points)
@yate9837 well there you go I've lived in my share of council places and i have only ever left behind far better gardens & properties than I moved into . My house is ex council and I have found alsorts even dead cat remains (which I 're buried) . I'm sure in many years to come if anyone digs up our old fire place they will probably be fascinated by it lol
by (630 points)
@thinner true! Ours is just pure rubbish
by (1.5k points)
@yate9837 all I've buried is stuff that at nearly 60 years old is too heavy for me to move , as it was we had to drag it down the garden on an old carpet . Which incedently isn't buried all carpets went to the tip

by (1.6k points)
I love tiger nuts. Did you find them in your garden?
by (1.6k points)
No I sa them on another gardening post and thought . ooh something I've never tried. I'll give those a go. Do you have them too?
by (2.3k points)
@quick80744 that’s odd I thought the post was asking for unusual things found buried in your garden
by (1.6k points)
They were something my mum used to eat when I was a child. Haven't seen them for years and then found them in my local Sainsbury's few months ago. They are nothing like nuts really. They are sort of chewy and sweet.
by (1.6k points)
@orinasal26313 you are totally correct. I'd read a post earlier from a guy asking what unusual things people were growing this year and obviously have been distracted and answered here. Ha ha oh well I'll leave it here just for fun x

A little blue glass bottle stopper and a old bottle that could possibly be a poison bottle ☠️ because it's got ridges down the sides.
by (1.2k points)
@whim72 not necessarily poison, just a liquid for external use, rather than internal use. So it could have been eg some sort of oil for the skin, disinfectant or cleaning fluid.
by (1k points)
@mutz4/activity" class="qa-user-link">mutz4 thanks @mutz4/activity" class="qa-user-link">mutz4 I wasn't sure I do remember poison bottles had ridges on them but if I remember rightly the ridges were on the back of the bottle.

I found some kind of irrigation system in my garden. I have pipes coming up from the ground and it went to the green house and parts of the garden. The previous owner loved gardening, so I'm guessing he fitted some kind of watering system. We dug up these massive metal water tanks that the pipes were connected too. I still dont know for sure what it was in my garden, but I was gonna make a water feature out of the tanks we have found.
by (2.2k points)
@apish Trinder this sounds like my garden. The metal pipes were attached to a boiler that heated water around the greenhouse.

We couldn't see how long our garden was when we bought our house because of all the brambles and rubbish in it. When it was finally cleared we found a metal shed with car roof bars in it, and various bits of scrap metal, a wooden shed that housed a large rats nest.  I've never seen so many rats dart away when it was being pulled down. We've since found lots of bricks, concrete and rocks but nothing of interest yet.

I kid you not but I dug up a little while ago, a complete back light from possibly a cortina or similar. No photos but also another time, a dukes of hazzard style car horn complete with all wiring and electrics, probably from the same car. Various other car parts, broken. A 10ft concrete washing line post, whole. Milk bottles, smashed and a couple of whole ones. Part of a mattress, rusty springs and damask. Lid off a Pyrex dish. T shirt. Lots of crisp packets, even the ink was pretty good after at least 20yrs in the ground. Part of a wooden window, with smashed glass. Bungee cords, rotten. Loads of rocks and stones. I'm still in the process of digging so there'll be more no doubt

We cleared loads of ivy, soil, weeds etc on a bit of unused land just outside our garden fence. We found a low brick structure, with a wooden hatch, and next to it some large metal plates. When we lifted them, we found the workings for an old canal sluice - we live in an old lock keepers house, so not a mega surprise, but we didn't know the old sluice existed!

My daughters and I were digging ready for a patio when we found several bones they were quite big, so we phoned the police and they took the bones for examination and fenced off the garden. We were all separated and questioned, it hit the local paper and for 5 minutes we were famous. Until the police informed us it was a sheep bone with marks from a canine on it.

We recently bought a new house and just started work on the garden, so far I have dug up at least 100 Quarry tiles hidden under the grass. Think the original owners used them for small patios around different parts of the garden?
