If you mean your green grass turning to brown patches : Dogs aren’t nearly as bad as Bitches. However, when spayed the problem gets better
by (890 points)
@mezzo really? Thats encouraging. Just had her done

I have had dogs and the garden was part of their home. They were trained to do their toilet when they were walked.

Same here , my collie has totally ruined the lawns . It’s like a huge mud bath . It’s got to the stage where even she jumps over the huge puddles she’s caused by digging holes . I’ve got to the stage where I’m going to put down slabs and pebbles . I could weep but I love my puppette so much that’s what I’ll have to do x
by (510 points)
I’ve got to terriers and they’ve dug up the lawn then they look at me as if I’ve made the puddles

And as for section bits of the garden , I planted bulbs and surrounded the section with bits of fence and plant pots and guess what ? She shoved over them and uses that bit to wee on . Grrrr!

If they are female dogs they kill off the grass there are some mineral pebbles you can buy online that you put in their water it stops their urine killing off the grass

I going to give it one my try and getting it returfed, but it she messes this up I’m going to have to think about paving a lot of it. I just need to see if the mole that came into the garden towards the end of last summer has gone before I do anything.

@rudolph82593 snap. Used to have an unhygienic mud pit mixed with dog poo! Couldn't tell which was which!  We've got plenty of shrubs / flowers in a border and tubs too so before anyone moans about the bees!

Please consider the environment. Is a mucky lawn for a few months really worth paving or putting down plastic in place of grass? ‍♀️

Very easily. dont let people get too close to the grass. From a far, i have grass. the nearer u get u see burn marks, dig holes, dog poop i havent yet picked up. I call it, living. My flower beds on the other hand, thats a no go zone for my lab
by (5.5k points)
@reducer exactly my thoughts. I don't mind it. Just part of having dogs and gardens lol

I have found that putting a little bit of tomato ketchup in each meal for the dog helps with the grass burn with male or female dogs. A trick my Mam told me and it's always worked for me. The acid in the tomato neutralises something in the dogs wee plus the dogs usually like the taste too

Section of garden fenced off for them, it's gated so they can only go on the grass if I let them :) Yes I'm an evil dog parent lol

@durfee36 the dogs bit is paved, easier to clean up after them and it saves my grass being wrecked  trouble is that as soon as it gets sunnier they keep on at me to open the gate

Tried everything you can think of . Female dogs burn the grass so all year I have patches even with this wetter than wet year ! But I feed the grass and throw handfuls of grass seeds around whenever I think it’s warm enough . In the summer when it’s really bad I patch with bought turf . Move the bench to cover it and give it a chance to grow . I totally patch it while she’s in kennels when we are away on hols so it’s great after two weeks ( just start again ) But I’d rather have patches than no Cassie

You will never have a perfect lawn with dogs. I have 3 and a smallish lawn. It does help for every poop you scoop with a trowel, stab into the soil and lift the turf slightly to get air underneath. Also scatter a box of seed once a year (I do mine in Spring). Hope that helps a bit.

Our garden has just been redone to cut down on mud in the continuous rain. We've gravelled a fair part, but left flower borders. Hopefully getting raised planters tomorrow and I can get planting again.
