So I recently brought this online, first time ive brought something like this online, the discription said orange and I order an orange flowering one. After emailing the seller they stated “not to worry as when the flower comes out it will turn orange”. I’m not an expert in flower/shrubs but I find this hard to believe with the current colour it is. Please give me some advice is the information I received from the seller correct or just been sold a different colour? Thanks

You have to have the right soil for an azalea and thats why they grow well in pots. If your soil isnt correct sadly it will die
by (410 points)
@pogge thank you Ruth, I didn’t realise it was that critical. Maybe I shall return it to its pot. Thank you again
by (490 points)
@eponymy yes i would and they flower every year in may and are absolutely beautiful but best kept in a pot unless u know what type of soil you have
by (410 points)
@pogge I haven’t a clue what soil I have, maybe repotting is a good idea. Thank you for your advise much appreciated.

I’ve learnt now why mine aren’t doing very well obviously the soil

And Alex's post didn't warrant a stranger being rude about his use of a word! We all know exactly what was meant. It is horrible that people are so rude. It also highlights ignorance and intolerance toward people with learning disabilities which is completely unacceptable.

You need ericaseous soil think that's how you spell it for Azaleas and Rhodedendroms.
by (460 points)
@cernuous what is that when it’s at home ! You all are minds of great information as I learn to garden. It’s a science really, I am realising x
by (640 points)
@cernuous it's Ericaceous soil, which means they need acidic soil not alkaline, and ericaceous compost provides higher acidic levels required by the plant

See what happens you may be pleasantly surprised! I was given one of these by my mum (I thought it was a stick Bush- wasn’t looking inspiring) and this year its flowered for the first time! I’m not a fan of red- but I love it! It’s gorgeous! What a surprise!

Looks pink to me guys. Not going to change colour and a pretty basic colour for an Azalea so not worth splashing out on. All Azalea need a particular soil type (acidic) but that won't change the colour (your getting mixed up with hydrangea)

Not the same plant but I know hydrangeas can change colour dependant on the type of soil they’re planted in, could this be the same?

I own a garden centre and it’s definitely pink and not orange and it looks like it’s struggling if I’m honest . make sure it’s planted in ericacious soil and buy a azalea feed too . X
by (410 points)
@seaman4944 thank you for the tips. I’ll give it ago and to be honest I haven’t a clue what soil I have, maybe a google search to see how to test soil.
by (450 points)
@eponymy buy a bag of ericacious soil , dig it up and line the hole with the soil and then cover it over with it . Xx
by (410 points)
@seaman4944 wicked, thank you for the advice I’ll give it ago. Much appreciated.
