Question

I have no idea what I’ve done wrong! Bought two bougainvillea plants, potted them in to slightly bigger pots and they are both dying. Watering them in the evening they have a nice sunny spot too, used multi purpose compost/soil. Any ideas? Can I bring them back or is that them dead as a dodo?

Are there holes in the bottom of the pot? if they were mine id put them in partial shade for a few days and see how they get on x

Do you water them when sun is shining on them ?

@casino no, and I only water the soil too. They get watered in the evening once the sun has passed.

Yeah there’s good drainage and stones in the bottom too. I’ll give that a go, thank you

Looking at the yellowing on the leaves my guess is you may be overwatering.

@err5 I’m a first time gardener so to speak and honestly didn’t realise how fragile some of these plants were with temps. I didn’t think it had been that cold but it seems I may have been mistaken

I have one in my bathroom I'm not sure they are hardy enough to be outside as used to Mediterranean clipmates

@calumniation8314 see my assumption was that because it was outside at the shop that it would fine outside. I wasn’t even sure what it was it just looked pretty. Not so much now! Will be popping it in the greenhouse to see if I can perk it back up. Every days a school day! Even at 38

@mycenae3856 i picked mine up from outside lidl but assumed they wouldnt like the colder nights. Hopefully yours will perk up in the geeenhouse

I don't think they need a lot of watering as they are Mediterranean growers?

Don’t give up on them yet anyway . maybe bring them into a shed at night and out during the day for a good while

Love bouganvilia. Reminds of the years we lived in the Middle East growing up and over pergolas.

I read that you shouldn't water them too much, also they don't like their roots being disturbed.
