Advice wanted.  the previous owner of our home decided to paint the outside flags, a few times by the look of it.Advice wanted. the previous owner of our home decided to paint the outside flags, a few times by the look of it. it is constantly flaking and looks such a mess. weve had a blast with the jet wash but only brings off so much. can anyone recommend a way of stripping it or advise if we could just paint over it again to tidy it up?

This is what everyone’s patio is gonna look like come autumn with the latest craze of painting and stencilling slabs. I learnt the hard way. You could try brick acid or paint brush cleaner. Work into the slabs with a hard brush and rinse with water.

@campground wow that’s fab! You must have had suitable paint. Lots just use masonry and I found it doesn’t really last very long at all.

@antigone I used dulux weathershield masonry. Jet washed first then 2 coats. Only painted it because we were going to get new patio this year but will leave it for now. To be honest decking needs more maintenance.

Hydrochloric acid “brick cleaner” pour on and use a sweeping brush and soak it leave for 5-10 mins then jet wash off it’ll come straight off

If theyre not cemented down they can be turned over then cleaned

Abrasion would work. I cleaned several of my slabs with a wire brush. It would seem laborious but do a couple a day and it'll soon be done. I would avoid acids etc.

Maybe better to paint over again using masonary paint. or replace.
