Can you plant straight onto a grass patch or would it need dig over first
by (430 points)
You would need to turn the soil first
by (390 points)
@rms0 Sacre what does turning the soil mean, are you in uk ?
by (390 points)
@rms0 Sacre aww thanks x

Do they come back year after year?
by (540 points)
@perkins Yea I've been told they do :)
by (3.5k points)
If they reseed and don't get eaten by birds they should do. You won't get nearly as good as a display as the original though without scattering more

@palestine Thanksler Parks I have cats too so no doubt that won't help

by (380 points)
Lovely where did you get your seeds?
by (420 points)
@lesleelesley these are lovely! Can you tell me which brand please? Not had much luck with wildflowers
by (5.3k points)
@lesleelesley did you do anything much to plant them. Mine never came up.
by (1.9k points)
Best thing to do is to treat them mean. The soil we used was rubble and bad soil from when we landscaped the garden. They thrive in bad conditions
by (1.5k points)
@voucher homebargain do a massive box for 2. 99
by (380 points)
Thanks. I hear everyone saying they thrive on bad soil etc. But I still feel I’m gonna mess this up haha I’m the worst gardener. Bought 4 different brands of wildflowers and fx at least something comes up  Also bought four bags of top grade top soil. so that was unnecessary apparently

I put mine down in late September to allow them to establish before winter, so right now have a thick green carpet of mixed seedlings ready for spring. You can sow now and you’ll have a slightly later display.

I’ve got a strip on my front garden which I’m going to do this. It’s turfed and stoned. Do I need to turn that up and put seeds down. Then leave it to grow?

I sowed some last year but they weren't the best, lots of forget me knots which I didn't want as they are really invasive in my back garden - any recommended boxes that people have used that include poppies ?

I have a huge raised planter that the dog tends to hide his toys in (not so much in the colder months as he hates the cold lol) so I didn’t want to spend out to much money on plants etc these would be perfect, but my question is does any one know if there’s any wild flowers that are toxic to dogs many thanks
by (620 points)
@valentin I don’t mind if he hides his toys in there it’s the only part of the garden that he digs, he’s a rescue and if he feels he needs to bury his precious things then I will let him plus he’s a dog. I knew when we got a dog the garden wouldn’t ever be perfect but a lovely display like the above picture that doesn’t cost a Fortune happy me happy dog

I would love wild flower boarders but my cats would turn it over as they sometime use them as litter trays. Any idea what I could put over until established that wont trap birds and stop cats?
by (790 points)
@sabian I put a thin mesh over my seed beds held on with little screen on hooks I think it's for veg patches until the flowers pop up. And I planted Borage last year in my garden appeared to keep the cats at bay

I have read that to create a wild flower garden you have to take out the big strong weeds/ flowers and allow the smaller flowers to go to seed and harvest the seeds?

by (650 points)
I planted at the end of June and I got a few like this in August. I planted late. I think you could plant from April. Wasn't loads but was poor quality soil so I was pleased.

I’m planting 3 boxes here I’m starting the 1st box in March when the weather picks up then doing the other 2 in April & May so hopefully get long show of flowers. I’ve also planted lots of bulbs & other ‘wildlife friendly’ plants ☺️ fingers crossed they look as good as that picture! ‍
