Can't believe I've joined this page, I know bugger all about gardening! & Never bothered doing anything but mowing the lawn until covid19 lockdown, but I've been gardening, I feel imasculated  I've made a rock garden, put in alpines!  Even used Bamboo sticks to stake things out, planted bulbs which are actually starting to show  I feel this is so wrong. I'm a petrol head car but, before now I've dug holes and poured used engine oil in the flower borders - plants didn't seem bothered, even car paint  but those days are gone, WTF us going on with me, I have even listened to a gardening show on the radio, what the hell? The sad thing is I'm actually enjoying doing some gardening, I'm very practical and can put my hand to most stuff but ya know. is this some form of mental illness?

This will save your sanity. You can still listen to your rock music whilst sipping a beer, and reading your gardeners world magazine . I say don't knock it until you've tried it!

My garden is my sanctuary. Over looks fields one side and over look the cathedral the other. It makes me less stressed. I do flowers and my partner does veg. Watching the sheep later in the year is sooo funny. We admire the small things in our garden. Butterfly and bees. The blossoms coming out. My partner had to grow his own stuff when he was little because his dad was a vicar and they had very little money. Every fruit and veg you can imagine. Xx life is not about money. Fancy cars and home. It's about waking up every day and smiling and being grateful.

Just like finding out the faults in an engine and making it run sweet again gardening, nurturing something to grow and look pretty is so satisfying and the help to the environment is a bonus xx

No, it's not. Its calming, relaxing, and you can see and enjoy what comes from all your work. Its good exercise too. I've heard too, working in the dirt is good for your immune system too. I crank on my 70s and 80s tunes, and can spend all day puttering around outside doing stuff.
