If you paid for the fence then you should be able to paint both sides to maintain it. I would ask the neighbours if you could go into their side to paint or perhaps give them the paint to do other side of the fence. No point just painting one side as it wont make the fence last if not done both sides

We do halves with our neighbour to the right too, so we each paint our sides we are on a corner the rest is ours

Tricky one, usually you would own one fence, but check your deeds, if the fence is on your side of the boundary it's yours. If on other side NOT yours even if you contribute towards it. but seems unreasonable of neighbors saying no paint after you paid, suppose you could ask for your property back and remove any fence panels they say not to paint. You still have recipt right?

Technically if you will more then likely own 1 side of fencing. it will say on your deeds. but if you friendly with the neighbors ask then if they mind you painting itn

If you buy the panels of fencing then you have the good side of it

Who told you you can’t paint? If it’s discussed with your neighbour who went halves then surely it’s fine. It’s down to you both. I wouldn’t be able to say no if I let my neighbour pay toward my fences that’s for sure!

If you have paid for them all you can paint or if you have your neighbours permission but sounds like they are all yours so paint away

If you have paid then paint it, who said you can't paint it as you've split the cost for the panels

by (7k points)
You don't own anything, you've just bought your neighbour a fence unless its on the Deeds that you are to fence that boundary. Marked T on deeds,

At my old house I paid for panels all round as I had dogs and I painted them when they needed doing and as one side was an elderly lady on her own I offered to paint her side as well

You can paint your side of the fence, who told you you can’t? At the end of the day you are treating the other side so I’m sure your neighbor wouldn’t even complain.

Ask your neighbour if they mind if you paint your side I’m sure if you’ve paid half they aren’t going to say no ‍♀️

Owning is the wrong term, you paid for them therefore you own them. However on the house deeds it will tell you which boundary is yours, usually that means you fence that side and the neighbour fences the other. As you’ve gone halves with one neighbour then have a chat about painting their side I reckon they’ll do their side, as for the other side then I’d have a chat with them, it’s trespassing to go into their garden to paint their side of the fence.

Is the wall on a particular border line? My wall with the neighbour is my wall as it's on my property. That being said they can paint it whatever colour they so wish
