I've noticed that 'headline 3' and 'description 2' are often ignored by Google ads. They replace headline 2 with my website address, and description 2 rarely gets shown. Any strategies to help these get shown more often? Other than the obvious, using good relevant keywords etc?

Google shows them when it's machine learning thinks you are more likely to get a conversion. They should be written in way that it shouldn't matter if they are removed by Google. The website address is likely a location extension which is also shown when you are more likey to get a conversion.

This is correct

Thank you! Could you explain a bit more about the location extension please? When I look at my ad preview it shows my website name at headline 3. Could it look different to people who see my ad? Would Google substitute it for a place name instead of the website name? And if so, which location would they show, the main area of the ad? Thank you.

It’s not really a location extension. Sometimes Google will just show your website URL next to the headline

Ok thank you.

That first answer is entirely wrong. You’re only going to see headline 3 and description 2 of your top of page position is high enough when you show. Has nothing to do with machine learning.
