Question for you all.  I know I have read in the past that many have had to have their gall bladder removed.Question for you all. I know I have read in the past that many have had to have their gall bladder removed. What is it about this diet that may cause gall stones and the need to have it removed? It may be my turn now as I had an attack last Sunday and I am wondering if it is a result of eating all the processed products from IP that I have eaten for quite a few years, on and off. Thank you in advance and know that I really appreciate any info you can offer.

My husband just had his gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago after several attacks. He has been on IP since August - lost 55lbs. I am not in the medical field. This is what I understood the surgeon to say: There is a correlation between rapid weight loss and gallstones. When you gain weight the gall bladder expands. It stays the same size (does not retract) when you lose weight. Bile binds to excess cholesterol and forms stones and causes blockage and infection. My husbands attacks were all caused by falling off the wagon - eating brisket at Christmas, Canes (chicken fingers) in January and another final blow in February when they finally did an ultrasound in the ER. They had done different tests the other times and had said it was severe gastritis. Now that it’s out he feels FANTASTIC and believes there has been issues caused by the gallbladder for at least a year.

@appetite85 thank you it’s good to know that maybe my rapid weight loss in the past may have caused the start of this. Had I stayed skinny I may not have had this flare up, but since I gained it all back in the past 2 years the attack happened. (Stones) Thank you all this is very helpful!

Had Gallstones 2 years ago. Caused me to be in hospital with severe Pancreatitis. No food or water allowed for 10 days. Only IV fluid. Very scary. Gall bladder removed. All better. No creamy stuff now, such as heavy soups, butters, dressings, etc. or I pay dearly.

@oxide sorry to hear. Sounds like you have it under control now! Not sure I could stay away from all foods you mention but I guess I would have no choice if I have it removed.

@footrope well that is good news as someone told me I would have to follow a specific diet if I have it removed.
