My only complaint about IP- every clinic does different things, coaches differently, charges differently. And before you all jump all over me again - it is the truth and it’s frustrating!

@jalisajalisco83 so what is wrong with plain old table salt with iodine?
by (8.1k points)
@chokedamp, the IP Salt is not only has iodine, but has potassium in it, unlike plain old table salt

It is on the sheet. I use Sea Salt, not IP salt; I'm not even sure if they sell IP salt at my clinic.

@ansell6 pink Himalayan salt can be bought at sprouts, Walmart, probably any big grocery store.

@oleograph - Yes it can. I actually get a variety of Sea Salt from a local specialty store (they are online so I have them shipped). My favorite Sea Salt from them is Ghost Pepper.

Halley, the salt is considered a supplement because it has added potassium and magnesium. So, it most definitely should be taken daily - but only 1/4 tsp!

I think leg cramps in part are caused by decreased potassium

If you are on certain medications for high blood pressure you are not supposed to use the IP salt. I'm not sure what all of them are but I am on Valsartan and am not supposed to use the IP salt so I use sea salt instead.

Hmmm. I’m on BP Mets because of a heart attack and was never told that
by (8.1k points)
@nikethamide, not all BP meds require us to omit the IP salt.

The Ideal salt has potassium in it also. You should be taking the pill potassium and using the Ideal Salt as directed on the sheet. Sea salt can also be used but not in place of Ideal Salt. If you are on certain blood pressure meds, your coach may direct you not to use the Ideal Salt, the potassium or both - depends on your meds.

She should give you the IP salt! Since the typical American diet makes us hold so much water, on the IP diet you will not be bloated with water! In the process of losing that water you will also lose a lot of sodium but also potassium! IP salt has both to replenish to keep your electrolytes in balance! If she doesnt give you any get some Morton Lite salt, it's the same thing.

@belamy, if her coach is trained and certified and had the client complete the health profile she will know more than you as in whether or not the IP salt is appropriate for her to take. Not all clients can take the IP salt and/or the Potassium supplements. There is a reason clients need to complete the health profile and make sure they notify their coach with any medication changes while on protocol.

When do you take it and how much and how? things my coach should be telling me. grrrrrrrrrr
by (3k points)
@chokedamp I think it's 2 tsp a day and just put it in whatever you're eating or take it with water esp if you have a headache.
