Yes. I’m not concerned about invading my own privacy.

@nessy Hmmm. understood! but ring can access them as well:)

@devindevina I’m not concerned with Ring spying on me.

I have one indoor camera in my restroom pointed at my dog's indoor kennel (my master bathroom is massive) and away from the toilet and shower/jacuzzi tub. I don't give a shit about that camera, I walk past it all the time naked, dangling and all. If they're watching, to quote Otis Driftwood, "HOPE YOU LIKE WHA@marlonmarlow YOU SEEEEEE! "
by (1.8k points)
Me too. like who cares. As long as you don’t put it in any rooms, toilets, you should be fine. Just put it somewhere that has entry point. Again, 2-way authentication should be enabled. your password should be strong enough and not easily guess. You should be fine. Stop being lazy on doing those things as it will give you peace of mind. Again. it is all about how you make things complicated for intruder to hack your cameras.

I would never. If ur system is hacked they can watch u and ur family. They will know all ur movements , conversations, and where u put ur things. Dumbest thing ever if u care about ur privacy.
by (1.2k points)
Facebook doesn't allow you to turn anything off, it's a false sense of security.
by (1.7k points)
Guys, let’s keep the focus on indoor cams here- there is no point on going to facebook, alexa, whatsapp etc. almost everyone uses them.
by (970 points)
Ticktok or whatever is worse than fb. I don’t have installed never used. Chinese owns app it it shares all ur phone data to the government of China. The u. s government banned it from employees devices and were told to delete off kids devices also. They access ur keystrokes cams searches everything on your cell and shares it. Vids of the government saying this also.
by (970 points)
U got a point. Everyone’s different. I personally wouldn’t install cams in house. And by saying well that app can listen and see u so who Cares is stupid. U should always try to minimize ur risks not add in to them. But I’m out. Have great day

To me, my humble opinion, an indoor cam is a last resort in the event an intruder gets in. I rather have a couple of cams inside so police can potentially find the intruder. You as a consumer need to understand the pitfalls as well as the positives. Can a hacker get in. sure, but if you take the right precautions, no. they can't get in. An outdoor cam, wired or not, is an entry point into your internal network. So, someone can disable that cam, connect a device to it and then they are now inside of your network and take advantage of what they can. I have all my cams hardwired, VLAN'd off from the internal network, so if anyone unplugs one of my cams, then can't get into my internal network. Same with wireless devices. separate SSID that only has internet access. Guests have another SSID and so on. Yes. anything can be hacked, but if you stay on top of things you lesson that attack vector.

Yes, another brand. Most of them are off until we leave. Then I have an alexa routine that turns them all on. Also not really concerned with privacy we dont have them in bedrooms, mostly covering entrances.

I have 3 indoor cams inside my home (office, great room, and front bedroom) - mostly to keep an eye on the dog when we aren't home, 1 inside my garage. zero issues at all. I use modes and they are only on when I'm away or in home mode. Zero issues and zero concerns, as long as you have your account secure then you should have nothing to worry about.

With 2FA and other new security measures, it'll take more than your average password thief hacker to get in to the camera to see what you are doing. Modes has done a lot to disable the cameras when you are home and only activate when the alarm is set also. I have no worries using the cameras in our home. The benefits far outweigh the downfalls. I dont think there is any harm done to only have them in areas that cover entrances into the home, no where I would deem as "private" areas of the home. Besides, you probably arent concerned or have never thought of the camera you are starring at right now reading this, either webcam on a laptop or the "selfie" cam on your phone. And how many people have finger print and facial/retinal I. D. unlocking on their phone, could you imagine if those things were ever hacked or stolen?

I plug them in when we leave the house. They are unplugged when were home.
by (22.1k points)
Have you tried modes yet? Or put them on smart switches and run a routine for when you leave? Easier than the plug in and unplug method each time. I used to use the smart switches before modes came out.
by (780 points)
I don't have ring ones for inside. I use smart plugs. But we only have a couple hooked up inside so its not a huge deal to manually do it as well.

We use them, but used more so to watch our dogs in crates while we are not home so focused in a very particular spot in the corner of one room. The way I look at it, it is no less secure than having Amazon Alexa in your home

If you are concerned about privacy then you shouldn’t have any cameras in your home. Personally, I only have indoor cameras located in my office where my safe and guns are located and also directed at main entrances, such as garage door, back door. I don’t want cameras located where someone could see a person walk from a bathroom to a bedroom. However, if we go on vacation and the house is empty for a week, I tend to reposition cameras to catch the biggest areas.

Don’t have any. They are easy to hack.
by (1k points)
@drews really, tell me How? The only way they have been hacked so far is if people Don't change the default password or use the same password for ring that the use for something else and someone gets that password. Please enlighten me because as far as i know If you use two factor authorization (which people should use for everything)then they are safe.

My friend was hacked. It was a scary experience for her to have someone start telling you exactly what they see you doing in your house.

by (1.9k points)
@lishalishe - for clarification, they weren't hacked. Some employees went beyond their purview and accessed video they didn't need to. This is no different from your email provider sysadmins being able to read your email.
by (4.6k points)
@adahadaha If its your company email, the sys admin has every right to read it. If its your personal, then no. So not the same. Either way, I said, make sure you are okay with someone else seeing it by accident or backing if you read the full statement.
by (1.9k points)
@lishalishe - I said nothing about "right" - I said "able". There is rarely any technical controls to prevent your ISP sysadmins from reading your personal email. But you just aren't exciting enough to bother. The chances of a Ring engineer seeing your particular video is probably about the same as you getting struck by lightning on the same day you win the lottery jackpot. If that worries you, you need to airgap your wired video system.
by (790 points)
@adahadaha I can’t disagree, but the government knows where you are and who you are right now! So now what?
by (1.9k points)
@knighten - now what? Easy. Ditch the paranoia and just live your life without being a criminal. Chances are, any surveillance will only help prove your innocent.

Four stationary and one remote controlled. Mostly to check on the pets, but also for security when I'm away. Let them hack in, I lead a pretty boring life and the pets sleep most of the time.

I have 2 ring floodlights and an indoor camera. My hope is to be more aware of my surroundings. Neighborhood is great for real time updates of what’s going on in my area. Also it is the hope that footage would help police in the event of a break in. It’s great for keeping track of deliveries and foot traffic on my property. As well as possible wildlife hazards before I walk my dog. I set it to away mode when I’m gone and home when I’m home. I know I potentially sacrifice privacy. For me, the pros outweigh the cons. I’ve owned ring for 2 years. It’s been valuable to me countless times.

While I don't use a Ring indoor camera, I really have been more concerned monitoring my home when it is empty. On the Wyze cameras I am using, I can use IFTT@marlonmarlow to turn them on or off. So when my Nest thermostat goes into away mode it notifies IFTT@marlonmarlow and from that I have a routine that turns on the cams. Then then when I am almost home, the Nest goes back into Home mode, IFTT@marlonmarlow is made aware and the cameras are instructed to turn off. Works for me. Now maybe there may be a way to replicate that in an automated fashion for the Ring cams. Not sure, but its worth looking at. I noticed the idea of using the Ring security system as a trigger so I might look at that idea as an alternative.

While the name is "Indoor Cam", you do not necessarily have to install them completely "indoor". I have them on my covered patio, car port, and they'd even be great for the garage to work in conjunction with Amazon Key delivery. I also have one in my attic to monitor possible rodent activity since they're so inexpensive.

8 cctv and the RD2. I don't like the potential of someone being able to access my storage when it comes to inside my home, then again there's the possibility of my DVR being stolen and the video is gone.

8 cameras in my home. Privacy isn't an issue I rather have the tape than not have the tape when I need it because I was afraid of someone listening ‍♂️ I've got a smart phone with a mic and camera if they wanted to listen already. Its a safety thing.
