Hi all, I need some advice. I was looking into getting the Ring wireless security system (with the $10 monthly monitoring) but some friends are telling me that a wired security system is better (although higher monthly charge). I want a low monthly charge for security with window/door sensors with outdoor cameras and outdoor light sensors. Any advice on wire vs wireless? Thanks for your expertise.

I just switched to Ring Alarm from Vivint and my Vivint system was wireless, I never had issues with it over the the last 5 years but the cost is what made me switch to Ring.

I had Monotronics wired security system and liked it but the cost went up all the time. I got the ring system now and I love it. I have the orig ring doorbell and 2 floodlight cams. I'm very happy with Ring.

I had ADT and then another company. Costs always went up and there was no way to upgrade equipment. With Ring, which I have at 3 houses, I can add to the system any time. Also, the yearly protection plan is $100 per home, plus you might get a discount from your home insurance. Ring is the best way to go,

I will opine that wired with a higher monthly will be a poor choice vs. wireless. I said "wireless" and not "Ring" because you want to know wired vs. wireless which Ring just happens to be . kinda. so, Ring wireless alarm sensors have worked just great for me. I have a bunch for about a year and batteries still read full, even on the constantly used entry, balcony doors, and living room motion sensor. you see I said "battery, " that's because wireless means both communication to your system and the power to do it. this means you can add and move at will. the next sensor doesn't need another wire run, and that's a big deal. only worth it if power and communication both work well, and with Ring sensors it does

Why pay a monitoring fee when you can have everything already at ur fingers with your phone if the device goes off it alerts u and u call the police

My wife accidentally left a pot of chicken stock simmering on the oven a few weeks ago when we went to bed. Neither of us, or our kids heard the smoke detector go off. My first indication something was wrong was the Ring alarm center calling to check. It hadn’t gotten to flames yet, but I’m not sure it was that far away. Never would have had a call without monitoring.

The alarm plan also includes cloud storage for all cameras at that location and extended warranty for all devices. Add in the insurance discount and it was a no brainer for us.

@otes342 yes I got it just because I was always traveling and we got broken into then when the tech showed he tried to sell me this that and the world ! Well I asked him for his security license your required to have in NC I got the look like what! I went into my wallet and pulled mine out and I told him to hook it up and leave and I’ll do the rest. Never again ever will I deal with them

No phone line to be cut on wired. No ADT type wired is worth the price. If you have a great wifi you will be happy. No internet, the alarm goes to the local phone companies air waves and let's yo know. Over all cheaper less mess and I have had both. Could not take my system with me that was wired. Good luck

Wired alarm systems are completely out of date. There’s no need in 2020 to be running copper wires and having a phone line that can be easily cut.

I just switch from Protect America to the Ring alarm security system. I had one battery to go bad on me and that was in the motion sensor. I had Protect America for seven years and only had one battery to go bad. I switched to Ring because it is only $10 a month or $100 a year whatever way you want to pay. It also covers my Ring Doorbell 2, my inside stickup camera and my stick up camera on the back porch overlooking my backyard. Go with the Ring, it is a very good investment and you won’t be sorry!

$10 for professional monitoring with notification of doors and sensors vs $35+ on adt or brinks etc. easy decision. When they work the same.

Advice: 1. Wi-Fi upgrade. 2. Get ring alarm with optional retrofit kit for wired system. 3. Eufy2 cameras & doorbell $30 annual service for 1 device base station.

If I started all over, the google doorbell hands down is better than the ring in my opinion. Also wyze cameras are amazing and cheap. The ring alarm is exactly the same as other companies. Most do not hardwire in anymore either. They use the same. The alarm system I ripped out was wireless as well and it was costing the previous owner $46 a month.

Most all the professional systems installed in residential homes today are wireless. I've had my Ring system installed since June of 2018. Had one sensor go bad which was replaced. I had one false alarm early in ownership where my dog climbed to the top of a lounger and set off the motion sensor. We made the adjustment to the sensor to cut back a little on the sensitivity of the sensor and never had it happen again. The monitoring service called within 30 seconds of the trip. I saw it on my Apple watch as I was working. I told them not to call the police. I found the system to be reliable and easy to install.
